Human Resources Director Description
Civitas Education Partners, (CEP) exists to provide equal access to opportunities that break the cycle of poverty by leading and supporting K-12 college preparatory schools. CEP is a school management organization that operates four campuses of Chicago International Charter School (CICS), CICS Ralph Ellison High School, CICS Northtown Academy High School, CICS Wrightwood Elementary School, and CICS ChicagoQuest High School. Position Summary:
Civitas Education Partners (CEP) is seeking a Director of Human Resources who will manage and lead CEP wide Human Resources department, including the 4 school campuses.

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Managing and working with others, making CEP and campus team members feel valuable to the organization regardless of position and cultivate employee trust in organization and HR department in order to best oversee and mediate anxieties or conflicts of interestProvides counsel to campuses (assists school administration on matters relating to staffing, retention, performance management, training, labor relations etc.)Ensures compliance with federal, state and local policy relating to HR managementLead collective bargaining process and agreement implementationWorks consistently to ensure effective benefits administration for all parties/stakeholders involved, informs employees of benefit changes, directs processing of benefit claims, evaluates contract bids, awards benefit contracts and conducts benefit education programs on campusesPrepares, updates and recommends HR policy and new benefit programs based on campus needs and industry trend assessment in accordance with knowledge of best practices and legal boundariesLends hand to budget oversight and project management and carried out record keeping and HR procedural and employee evaluation.Makes effective business decisions in choosing with whom to share sensitive information, respects privacy and maintains confidentiality; possesses and exercises a fully developed business judgmentHas fully cultivated verbal, written and listening skills necessary to develop professional relationships with stakeholdersPrioritizes and plans work activities, plans for additional resources, integrates personnel and organizational changes smoothly and always meets deadlinesMaintains historical HR records by designing an efficient (where possible, electronic) filing and retrieval system for past and current recordsCreates a comprehensive plan to assess efficacy and processes for hiring, inducting, evaluating, supporting improvement and development of all staffProvides ad hoc coaching and intervention support when neededSupports development of climate of professional development and trust among all members of the organization
Qualifications:
• A Masters Degree in HR or Management related degree preferred
• 5 plus years of relevant experience with a successful track record in HR, three of which must include HR leadership responsibilities.
• Experience with labor relations and relationship building with all staff levels.
• Working expertise knowledge of the legal implications of HR systems and decision making
• Candidates who hold or are obtaining PHR or SPHR certification are preferred.
• Frequent in-city Chicago travel from Southside to Northside campuses is required for HR responsibilities.
