The Director, K-12 Literacy will oversee all aspects of K-12 Literacy and Social Studies, including Library services.
Having a cohesive K-12 structure in Literacy and Humanities will enable the District to ensure effective teacher and school support and horizontal and vertical alignment and quality of curriculum and assessments.

Salary:
Executive Director Salary Schedule (starting at $123, 807)
FLSA Status: Exempt
Qualifications:
5 years teaching experience or experience in education required; Master's Degree preferred.
Principal, Curriculum, or Reading Supervisory certification or equivalent required.
Successful curriculum and assessment development experience.
Documented success in improving student achievement in an urban school preferred.
Knowledge of Pennsylvania standards, initiatives and assessments.
Excellent presentation and writing skills.
Extensive knowledge of content-based pedagogy, assessment and technology.

Essential Job Functions:
K-12 Literacy and Humanities Executive Director's core job responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following essential job functions:
- Development, leadership and supervision of a coherent K-12 Literacy and Humanities Team.
- Leadership and management of K-12 District Literacy, Social Studies, and Library Services initiatives and work streams, including but not limited to Response to Intervention (RtII), Library services, and any additional outside grants or services.
- Support school based educators in all aspects of planning, instruction, assessment, teacher growth and evaluation.
- Leadership and management of continued K-12 curriculum and assessment alignment to PA Core and Common Core State Standards and adherence to the District's quality curriculum standards, which may include writing, review and feedback.
- Establish and lead a system of feedback from teachers, other school-based educators and leaders in the field.
- Oversee the K-12 Literacy and Social Studies assessment system and work collaboratively with the Assessment office to ensure a coherent system is in place.
- Collaborate with other content directors and supervisors to support literacy and humanities across all content areas, including PreK, Special Education, English as a Second Language, Career and Technical Education, and the Equity department.
- Design and execute K-12 Literacy, Social Studies, and Library Servicesprofessional development priorities and experiences for teachers, school leaders and other curriculum staff. Work closely with the Professional Development department to ensure an effective professional development plan for all teachers, with a specific focus on supporting new teachers.
- Lead the K-12 materials and textbook management, adoption and review process, ensuring high-quality, relevant materials in all classrooms.
- Lead, develop and support the execution of yearly K-12 Literacy and Humanities priorities and quarterly benchmarks.
- Regularly review and use in planning and decision making district and school data, including curriculum based assessments and other interim assessments.
- Engage closely with the district's Network Model and Assistant Superintendents to ensure K-12 Literacy, Social Studies, and Library Services tiered support to schools.
- Participate in professional networks and associations; develop and sustain outsider partnerships.
- Stay abreast of current research-based instructional theory and practices in the areas of content, curriculum design and research-based instructional theory and practices.
- Lead work in executing recommendations from external reviews which includes a focus on reform in K-5 literacy, social studies, and library services.
- Assist in recruitment and staffing for K-12 Literacy and Humanities positions.
- Work collaboratively with principals and members of Performance Management to ensure adherence and support of the district's teacher evaluation system.
- Develop and oversee the K-12 Literacy and Humanities budgeting process.
- Manage and oversee all items requiring board action in adherence to board timelines and policies.
