Reporting to the Chief Schools Officer, the Executive Director of School Supports is responsible for principal quality and school performance, primarily through the direct management of CPS' principals in the Independent Schools Network which is comprised of 90+ semi-autonomous schools. Additionally the Executive Director, oversees the Parent Support Center and leads the development and implementation of a cross-departmental plan for supporting low/underperforming schools.

The Executive Director of School Supports is expected to successfully oversee and/or perform the following core responsibilities:

• Development of effective tools for assessing Principal and Network team leadership capacity and provide differentiated supports that result in improved performance.

• Creation of systems and processes that effectively allocate resources to Chiefs of Schools to make data informed decisions about Principal needs

• Develop a process to strengthen parental participation and engagement that ultimately will improve parental access to vital information, resources and support

• Partner with Academic Departments to develop a system to effectively allocate instructional supports and content experts to Principals based on need

• Design and lead professional development sessions for school leaders and Parent Support Administrators

• Manage and organize the resource allocation for Independent School Principals to meet individualized school needs

• Oversee the Parent Support Center team ensuring parent and community concerns are resolved with optimal service and efficiency

• Develop framework structure to equip Parent Support Administrators to effectively address community concerns and escalations

• Facilitate the creation of professional learning communities enabling best practice sharing and collaboration among school leaders

• Develop long and short term plans/programs and strategies to improve student achievement in low/underperforming schools

• Serve on committees and participate in projects at the request of the Chief Schools Officer that will improve educational offerings and increase efficiency

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Executive Director of School Supports must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required :

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Education or a related field

Type of Experience and Number of Years :

• Minimum of 5 years of leadership supporting educators and administrators within a complex educational organization is required

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a principal within a large urban district

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

• Ability to articulate a vision, set high standards, and effectively guide schools and principals to meet strategic goals

• Experience in project and change management is preferred

• Strong leadership and team building skills, e.g. ability to develop high performing teams united around a clear vision for serving schools and achieving student success

• Effective strategic planning capabilities, including the ability to establish long-term vision and goals, and align/manage activities toward goal fulfillment

Residency Requirement:

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
