JOB SUMMARY

The Leave Analyst will coordinate and administer all aspects of employee leaves of absence and benefits, including day to day operations, compliance, and reporting. This includes, FMLA, Short-Term Disability benefits, CPS supplemental leaves, paid parental leave, city, county and state leaves, non-medical leaves, involuntary leave (fitness for duty), and reasonable suspicion based on FMLA law, CPS Policy and Board Rules, CPS Short-Term Disability Plan, and Collective Bargaining Agreements. A full understanding of all leave plans, policies, and processes is critical to the success of this position. This person will ensure that policies and procedures are amended as needed based on internal or external changes or trends. In addition, the role will support the broader Health and Benefits Department as needed and work on special projects as assigned and support the Manager, Employee Leaves as needed.

JOB PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leave Transactions

    • Processes all leaves of absences including FMLA, CPS supplemental leaves, paid parental leave, non-medical leaves, Short-Term Disability benefit, involuntary leave (fitness for duty), and reasonable suspicion in accordance with FMLA law, CPS Policy and Board Rules, CPS Short-Term Disability Plan, and CBAs.

    • Serves as a liaison between the leave of absence program and other CPS departments, schools, and the HR Talent Partners. Provides advice and information on all aspects of the leave of absence and the Short-Term Disability programs.

    • Provides excellent customer services to resolve employee inquiries regarding health insurance, employment, and benefits in a timely manner.

    • Provides tier 2 customer service for leave of absence and STD benefit questions from contact center. This requires research into employee leaves of absence and discrepancies with pay out of the STD benefit. Must have good writing and communication skills.

    • Ability to perform well in a team environment with a high volume work.

    • Ability to adapt and change based on the needs of the work environment.

    • Ensures HIPPA compliance and confidentiality of employee matters is maintained.

    • Interact with Payroll, the ADA Office, Law Department, and other departments as needed on issues affecting compliance with all leave benefit plans, including projects related to collective bargaining agreements.

    • Review audit reports for internal leave review and departmental metrics.

    • Audit processed applications for accuracy and review of denied claims.

    • Provide training on medical and non-medical leaves, Short-Term Disability, as needed to departments and schools.

      • Leave Accrual

  • Along with Leave Specialist, process, management, and pay out of donated sick days.

  • Review and update leave accrual balances when an employee returns to work.

  • Return to Work

    • Process return to work transactions.

    • Interact with the ADA Office to ensure a timely process for review of employees returning from leave with restrictions.

    • Maintain a file job descriptions for departmental use.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Google Applications. Strong Excel and data analysis skills (table pivot, VLOOKUP, array formula, macros, etc.). Efficient PowerPoint skills.

  • High level of data entry quality check. Attention to detail.

  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality and data privacy and protection requirements on a daily basis.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent team working and customer service skills. Results driven and goal-oriented.

Residency Requirement: As a condition of employment with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district
