The Ohio Department of Education is seeking a visionary leader with proven educational and organizational leadership skills that can lead the future-focused Office of Career-Technical Education (CTE). Successful candidates will have strong knowledge of career and technical education trends, experience in the delivery of CTE programs and integration of academic content in CTE.
Major Responsibilities & Duties:
Under the direction of the Senior Executive Director, serves as the Director for the Office of Career-Technical Education:
- Ensures implementation of Ohio’s Strategic Plan;
- Assists executive leadership in formulating policy and procedures for the office;
- Plans, directs, outlines and implements policy & programs;
- Collaborates with the Ohio Department of Higher Education to ensure seamless postsecondary transitions;
- Collaborates with the current structure of the center to provide excellent customer support;
- Ensures the alignment of Ohio’s career-technical education content standards and assessments with industry needs, credentials, and postsecondary education pathways;
- Ensures that adults without a high school diploma have the opportunity to earn their GED or high school diploma;
- Recommends and incorporates curriculum improvements aligned to applicable national and state academic content standards;
- Promotes high-quality career technical and adult education (e.g., how students are trained, service delivery, professional development of staff);
- Gathers feedback from the field and refines processes based on feedback to support career-technical education;
- Leads office leadership and staff in ensuring goals are met, services are rendered, and technical assistance is provided;
- Ensures procedures are within federal and state regulations;
- Assists with the review and recommendation of legislation pertaining to career-technical education at the state and national level;
- Identifies and delivers professional development to support continuous growth of both staff and leadership.
Oversees the budget and staffing for the office:
- Provides leadership, direction and supervision of staff (e.g., approves leave requests, assigns work, evaluates performance);
- Manages administrative activities of the office;
- Monitors and maintains budget and ensures alignment to state and federal guidelines;
- Determines manpower needs and utilizes staff/team members in order to efficiently and effectively reach goals.
Serves as a liaison with industry to bring stakeholders together so career pathways are aligned with industry needs and national trends:
- Provides leadership for career-technical student organizations;
- Collaborates with Office of Workforce Transformation, industry and others to ensure an efficient and accurate industry credential review process;
- Keeps aware of emerging trends in career technical education;
- Stays abreast of local, national, and global trends and recommends solutions to assist state, districts, and schools in ensuring every graduate is prepared for successful employment and ongoing education;
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Public Instruction & the Senior Executive Director of the Center for Teaching, Leading and Learning.
- Completion of Master’s degree in education, public administration, business administration or a related field
- 5 years of supervisory/management experience
- Administrative and/or teaching experience in a career & technical education setting
