Reports to : Executive Director for Special Education and Student Services
Description:
The Assistant Director of Transition is responsible for leadership specific to transitional services for students on individual education plans between the ages of 14 and 22. D The Assistant Director will improve the post secondary outcomes for students and strengthen the engagement of families as partners through planning, development and leadership in transition services. The Assistant Director of Transition will be responsible for insuring compliance with State transition regulations and indicators and will supervise employees currently working in the strive program. The individual will collaborate across multiple departments, schools and outside agencies to ensure transition support for students who receive special education services
Responsibilities: Provide leadership, guidance and support for special education and student services in the schools, specific to all transition services;
  • Develop and implements strategic plan regarding transition services focused on students development of academic and functional skills for transition to post-school activities vision, for further education, future employment and independent living;
  • Develop Guidelines for Practice and Post-Secondary Transition responsibilities as mandated by law for the development and implementation of transition plans for students ages 14-22;
  • Engaging students, families, schools and community partners in the transition process and the development of opportunities for employment;
  • Develop and provide professional development to BPS personnel on the topic of transition and the relevant procedural aspects of this topic;
  • Provide guidance and monitoring of the implementation of transition practices and DESE regulatory requirements;
  • Manage the data collection and data submission associated with state performance plan Indicator 13 Secondary Transition and Indicator 14, Post-School Outcomes;
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Student Services
Qualifications - Required:
  • Master's Degree in Special Education or related field
  • Special Education Administrative Certification
  • Three (3) years experience working in Special Education
  • Extensive knowledge of Special Education regulations and best practices
Qualifications - Preferred:
  • Experience as a Special Education Administrator in a large urban district
  • Experience as an Evaluation Team Facilitator
  • Experience working with students receiving special education services transitioning out of a large urban district
  • ELL category training or ESL certification

TERMS : BASAS Group 11B, 225 days
