Supervised by and/or Reports to: Building Administrator

General Responsibilities: Provides guidance and support in the area of math instruction.

Essential Duties:

Acts as the instructional leader/expert in the field of math instruction.

Supports instructional staff in effective math instruction by providing content knowledge and resources about learning and the teaching of math to include but not limited to the standards, framework, and process standards.

Reinforces quality instructional planning and delivery through coaching cycles, modeled lessons, co-teaching, observing, co-planning, team planning, researching/providing materials, and providing/attending professional development.

Shares strategies for integrating math across the curriculum to provide authentic experiences for all students.

Supports instructional staff in effective assessment of student achievement in all areas of math.

Supports instructional staff interpretation of assessment data and application of assessment results for planning and instruction.

Supports instructional staff in implementing data-driven best practices that support classroom-based Response to Intervention.

Supports building administrators by meeting regularly, interpreting data, communicating math program updates, and consulting to promote the building vision/mission.

Maintains paperwork consistently, appropriately, and in a timely manner.

Coordinates and facilitates implementation of instructional materials related to math.

Maintains the confidentiality of schools, teachers, and classrooms.

LFS leader and trainer and PBL leader.

Meets regularly with Central Office instructional specialist.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of current research and best practices in math instruction and

learning.

Strong speaking and presentation skills.

Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.

Serve as role model.

Requisite Education and Experience:

Master's Degree in math preferred.

Must possess or be eligible for a valid Virginia Teaching License with a Math Specialist endorsement.

Five or more years of successful teaching experience in elementary and/or middle school classrooms preferred.

Expertise in math instruction.

Experience in designing and delivering effective professional development activities at the district, school, and classroom levels.

Experience with curriculum writing.

Experience in leadership roles.

Experience in a diverse, multicultural teaching and learning environment.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching,

standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions are required.
