Position Description

JOB TITLE : Resource Teacher, Early Childhood (.5)

REPORTS TO : Coordinator, Early Childhood Programs

DEFINITION : Provides instructional and behavioral strategies to general education and special education teachers to assist students in accessing the early childhood curriculum. Supports school teams with recognizing the unique needs of early learners in order to capitalize on the strengths and needs of students by utilizing modalities supported by evidence-based principles and practices. Provides guidance on collecting, organizing and analyzing data that supports the development of individualized programming for students. Develops curriculum resources and provides professional development.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :

Supports classroom teachers with planning, modeling, and coaching of lessons and activities.

Models effective early childhood instructional practices for teachers and administrators.
Supports general and special educators in understanding current MSDE guidelines for early childhood instruction.

Works collaboratively with teachers and school-based administrators to solicit feedback to identify BCPS elementary early childhood curricular needs.

Participates in the development, revision, and/or implementation of the early childhood curriculum in alignment with the Maryland Early Learning Frameworks and College and Career Ready Standards.

Provides professional learning on the implementation of an effective, research-based early childhood instructional program.

Identifies and recommends prevention, intervention, and enrichment opportunities for students in early childhood programs.

Plans and presents early childhood information to multiple audiences. Develops a strong understanding of BCPS student achievement data.

Assists teachers in adapting early childhood curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

Collaborates with the Office of Special Education to ensure all students have access to quality early childhood programs.

Maintains personal professional growth in early childhood instructional practices. Assists with conferences and seminars.

Collaborates with all content offices to ensure alignment between early childhood curricula and content standards.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education. Training and Experience :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in elementary or early childhood education. Three years related teaching experience.

Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Standard Professional Certificate. Advanced Professional Certificate preferred.

Knowledge. Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of evidence-based practices for early childhood instruction. Knowledge of the Maryland Early Learning Frameworks and College and Career Ready Standards. Knowledge of learner-centered small group instruction Demonstration of outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Demonstration of strong leadership, communication, and human relations skills.
Possession of technology competency (e.g., database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications); skill and experience in data analysis and application.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally performed both in school and office environments. Travel to schools throughout Baltimore County is required. Work includes the operation of office equipment, computers, and assistive technology devices. Limited physical activities may be required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Requires attendance at after-school and evening meetings and events.

FLSA: Exempt

Eligible for membership in the Maryland State Retirement Agency.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
