POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Math Instructional Coach

LOCATION: Neal Math and Science Academy

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Instructional Coach will serve as an instructional support who works closely with the building principal, AP, teacher leaders, and district leaders to manage, support, and guide faculty in a way that strengthens student growth and development. The Instructional Coach will provide support on issues of curriculum, instruction, formative assessment, and professional learning. The Instructional Coach will work with teachers and build relationships to help create a positive and supportive learning community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. License: Valid Illinois PEL with Mathematics endorsement, General Administrative endorsement required; Teacher Evaluator designation preferred; Middle School endorsement preferred
  1. Education:
Required - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in related field.
Preferred - Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field
  1. Experience:
Required - Minimum of five years successful teaching experience at the middle/high school level
Preferred - Experience working as an instructional coach

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Use best practice coaching strategies, staff development and observation to continuously improve district aligned instructional strategies.Identify and implement coaching cycles with all teachers assigned to coachSupport the implementation of curriculumUtilize the Danielson Framework as part of a coaching cycle and support growth using the FrameworkMaintain a familiarity with current educational issues and trends through a process of ongoing professional development.Collaborate with teams of teachers and instructional leaders to manage and utilize student data to improve the quality and scope of instruction.Work collaboratively with the principal and teacher leaders around the evaluation process including the development of targeted growth plans for teachers.Work with teachers to set clear, measurable goals for students.Facilitate conversations among teachers that result in a common understanding of performance standards and benchmarks.Ensure the development and implementation of common short-cycle assessments in the core content areas.Provide guidance to teachers in the use of data to inform instruction.

  • Ensure alignment exists among instruction and assessment in the classroom. The teacher's interpretation of ongoing data should result in identified growth areas and be directly reflected in lesson planning and delivery.Ensure that a differentiated approach to learning is evident in the instructional approach and assessments.Develop teachers' ability to create and pose questions that require higher-order thinking.Complete any other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Working Conditions: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The position is a full-time and works a 260 Day Work Calendar

RANGE: Regionally competitive and commensurate with experience
