Description:

The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for the leading, creating and maintaining an exceptional food service program for students and staff. This position provides leadership necessary to continuously improve the Windsor Public Schools food service program in the area of recipe, menu and staff development and make decisions that effectively and efficiently use available resources. Windsor Public Schools is an active participant in the National School Lunch Program and other Federal and State programs (i.e. School Breakfast Program, After School Snack Program and Summer Food Service Program).

Job Summary:
  • Oversees the daily operation of the food service programOversees and ensures compliance of food services department in reference to all local, state and federal laws and regulations related to food safety and wellnessCompletes all paperwork necessary for state and federal free/reduced meal reimbursementsHires, supervises, evaluates and disciplines direct reports, ensuring accountability for meeting/exceeding clearly defined expectationsDevelops and administers the food service budget and strictly adheres to all state and federal related policies and marketing of the programMaintains and balances the budget to assure for a self-sustained enterprise accountManages financial operations of the food services department and reports on the operations to the Director of Business ServicesDirects and oversees the planning, organizing, scheduling, and implementation functions and resources of the food service department to achieve its goals and objectives of providing an appealing, nutritious menu in the most cost efficient and effective mannerDevelops and actively manages monthly department performance metrics, while constantly focused on improvement. This includes, but is not limited to, production records and participation dataMaintains and plans for the food service equipment, repairs and replacementDirects and engages with school staff to facilitate catering eventsMaintains school Nutrition Association of CT membership and complys with all Professional Development requirementsContinually learns and grows as a professional and ensures the same for all direct reports as required by CSDELeads district food services committee, consisting of students, parents, teachers, administrators, food service staff and BOE membersSeeks and develops innovative ideas as related to food quality, variety, and presentationEngages with local businesses and community partners to enhance the viability of the food service programWorks cooperatively with health department officials and school wellness committeeAssists district personnel as required and perform other duties as assignedAdheres to Town purchasing requirements that all awarded Bids are followed through and administered
Qualifications:
  • Meets USDA established minimum professional standards required for school nutrition professionalsTen years of culinary experience, K-12 experience preferredThree to five years managing peopleProven success with managing a school food dept budgetExperience with Microsoft Office Suite, Point of Sal (POS) System Software and Quick BooksStrong Leadership SkillsCreative thinker with a focus on customer satisfactionExcellent oral and written communicatorKnowledgeable of Bookkeeping/BudgetingResult driven, enthusiastic, energetic, involved, collaborative leaderPerceptive and flexiblePresents self as a confident, competent professional
