ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

West Jefferson Elementary is a small school located in the foothills of Conifer, CO. We serve students in Pre-K through 5th grade and offer a center-based program that serves students with emotional disabilities as well as students needing supports on the Autism spectrum. We believe in meaningful inclusion of students and building a community of learners who support each other to become stronger learners and compassionate citizens. We use EL Education as our main resource and curriculum for language arts instruction. We use Common Core State Standards, Bridge to Curriculum and Math Expressions to develop our lessons in math. We strive to create learning experiences that are engaging and challenging and support student growth. We work collaboratively as a staff to support students and families through positive, proactive, and clear communication around expectations and supports. We believe that all students can learn and we hold ourselves accountable for identifying and implementing the supports all students need to be successful!

Min-Mid Annual Salary Range: $40,989 - $57,654

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY Develop, implement, and support individualized practices for achieving learning outcomes for students with significant communication, cognitive, and/or social/behavioral needs, based on the requirements of Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). Will utilize evidence-based best practice and rely on frequent progress monitoring for programming adjustments. The ASD teacher will take a leadership role in collaboratively problem solving interventions for students. An essential part of this position is to effectively organize and coordinate the responsibilities of multiple adults in the educational environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Understand, interpret, and implement educational assessments and prescriptive and data driven instruction relying on frequent progress monitoring for adjustments.

Implement evidence-based best practice, including multiple methodologies, individualized for students with significant needs autism.

Develop appropriate plans and materials for effective instruction in multiple educational settings.

Develop and implement positive behavior support plans and facilitates the use of alternative communication systems.

Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Is aware of requirements of IDEIA and conduct IEP meetings accordingly.

Comply with Exceptional Student Services and District policies and procedures (e.g., Medicaid billing, accident reporting).

Organize and supervise multiple adult responsibilities within the classroom.

Maintain positive communication and relationships with general education teachers, school staff, and parents.

Create a safe environment for students that ensures quality instruction and quantifiable student progress.

QUALIFICATIONS Hold a valid Colorado teaching license with Special Education Generalist endorsement.

EXPERIENCE Has experience/supervised internship in working with students with significant communication, cognition, and/or social/behavioral needs. Can provide evidence of supervision and leadership of multiple adults. Has prior experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum in an educational setting. Has a working knowledge of and/or experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis. Has a working knowledge of and/or experience with modified benchmarks and access Skills. Training emphasis in LD/PC preferred.
