ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Summit Ridge Middle School serves students grade 6-8 with an academic robust curriculum. At Summit Ridge, we believe in the true middle school model and believe in team teaching. We believe that team teaching is advantageous for middle school students, as it promotes student bonding and fosters closer relationships between teachers and students. Additionally, team teaching promotes interdisciplinary instruction and coordination. Within the Dakota Ridge Articulation Area, we believe in supporting our students' through their PreK-12 learning experience. Summit Ridge Middle School is currently in a candidacy school for the MYP. Summit Ridge is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. In addition to our academic rigor, we offer a variety of elective courses that provide our students with an exploratory model that adds to the holistic approach to our students education. Student athletics and extracurricular activities are highly encouraged. Many of our students compete in our Middle School Sports Program and school sponsored clubs.

ABOUT THE JOB

This is a non-benefited job. No medical benefits are offered, however dental and vision benefits are available.

SUMMARY: Provides classroom support and supervision of students under the direction of the supervisor. Provide enrichment and intervention time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

-Work with individual or small groups of students to support and reinforce teacher prepared lesson plans.

-Provide enrichment and intervention time using District-provided materials or activities.

-Organize and prepare materials and resources to support classroom activities as assigned by the teacher.

-Supervise and manage student behavior as assigned.

-Prepare instructional art work (i.e. posters, bulletin boards and displays).

-Administer or assist with District and classroom assessments.

-Perform clerical duties such as filing, copying, and organizing student records.

-Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required. Jeffco paraprofessional training will be offered upon acceptance of a position and must be completed at first available training opportunity.

EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in a school setting preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Requires basic language, math, writing and communication skills. Knowledge of general office equipment preferred.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This job does not supervise other employees.

CONTACTS: Daily contact with persons in the same work unit or building and provides service to students and parents.

Paraprofessional - Instructional

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze, communicate and use interpersonal skills. Frequently required to compare, copy, coordinate, compute and compile. Occasionally required to synthesize, evaluate and negotiate.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by classroom teacher. This position requires ability to make decisions and follow instructions of the classroom teacher and school guidelines. Errors in decision making could lead to improper instructions for students, or improper behavior management of students. Decision making requires collaboration with supervisor. Work is guided by District policies, school/department procedures.

DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: Duties require cross training in office equipment including use of computers. This position requires communication skills, ability to work with groups of students and ability to work independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY: Provide students with disabilities instructional support as directed by special education teacher or building administrator as needed. Work individually or with a small group of students with disabilities using a variety of techniques, and help students with their daily school work or life skills instruction. Assist with implementing lesson plans, keeping classroom organized and performing clerical work. The continuance of this position each school year will depend on funding and school needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Provide instructional and behavioral support in all academic and related areas to students, as directed by the teacher.

Provide support to special education teacher such as preparing materials, assist in the implementation of IEP (Individualized Education Plan), provide input into the IEP when appropriate, deliver instructional materials for individual students, keep attendance and activity records, collect data for progress monitoring, and implement behavior intervention plans.

Perform assigned lunch/recess/bus duties which include supervision in the cafeteria, playground and pre/post boarding of buses.

Assist the teacher with preparation of classroom materials such as copying, laminating, filing and computer work.

Manage classroom behavior effectively as directed by the teacher.

Interact accordingly with parents and other staff as directed by the teacher.

Assist students on field trips.

Attend district-provided trainings and professional development as directed.

Perform other duties as assigned.
