BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

SECONDARY LANGUAGE ARTS CANDIDATES PREFERRED

Must hold a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in either elementary or secondary education and/or administration; possess leadership qualities, presentation, facilitation, organizational skills, and personal characteristics to work effectively with teachers, students, administrators, parents, and the community; demonstrate knowledge of adult learning practices and experience in designing and delivering effective professional development to adults; have a minimum of five years teaching experience, with at least three years in Prince William County Public Schools at the elementary, middle, or high school level with a proven record of success with student learning; show evidence of instructional leadership skills to include coaching adult learners individually and within teams; exhibit strong organizational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to formulate ideas and communicate them effectively; possess a thorough knowledge of educational philosophy, educational research, methods and techniques of instruction, professional development standards, current educational issues, demonstrate cultural competence; and Division priorities; possess the ability to resolve conflict, listen to and appropriately respond to concerns in a timely manner.

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Professional Learning, and in collaboration with the Director of Student Learning, the Instructional Coach will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and the community to design, train, implement, evaluate, and refine the Division's comprehensive Professional Development program.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

For Prince William County Public Schools, in accordance with law, Board policy, and administrative directives, the Instructional Coach shall provide effective leadership to ensure that all duties are performed in a collaborative, efficient, effective, and responsible manner.

• Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing a World-Class Education.
• Assess professional development needs, design and facilitate projects, courses, workshops, seminars, and trainings in alignment with the Division's Strategic Plan, school goals, the Professional Performance Process Standards, and national standards for professional development.
• Develop collaborative and professional working relationships with colleagues, school faculty, administrators, and members of Student Learning and Accountability staff.
• Serve as a liaison between the Office of Professional Learning, schools, and other administrative offices.
• Demonstrate expertise in the use of data for making instructional decisions.
• Maintain regular and ongoing communication and collaborative working relationships with colleagues individually in teams to improve student achievement.
• Participate in professional associations, conferences, and trainings related to instruction and professional development to maintain knowledge of current trends, research, and effective practice that support student learning.
• Support teachers to improve and sustain student achievement through demonstration lessons, co-planning, co-teaching, observations with growth-producing feedback, and facilitation of teacher reflection.
• Analyze disaggregated student learning results from a variety of data sources and use data about participant gains in knowledge and satisfaction levels to determine adult learning needs.
• Maintain frequent contacts and provide assistance to new teachers, lead mentors, mentors, and other teacher leaders.
• Support delivery of ongoing professional development aligned with Division priorities and Professional Performance standards.
• Provide e-learning experiences for professional development programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
