Job Summary
The 21st Century Community Learning Center Coordinator supervises a daily afterschool program for academic enrichment. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A bachelor's degree in education, organizational management, human services, or a related field. Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.Must have basic computer skills.Must obtain a first aid/CPR certificate within one month of employment.Must obtain a Student Nutrition ServSafe certificate within one month of employment.

The following are preferred:
  1. Four years of experience in one or more of the following human services fields is preferred: adult education, classroom teaching, community development, organizational management, recreation, public affairs, or community services.Ability to develop and maintain an afterschool academic and enrichment program at a neighborhood school.Ability to interpret directions, either oral or written from supervisors.Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school administration, and community members, both orally and in writing.Ability to resolve student discipline problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.Knowledge of organizational management practices.Knowledge of record keeping and report writing.Ability to work in a school setting and occasionally work evenings or weekends.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Supervises an afterschool academic and enrichment program on a daily basis.Maintains appropriate records of the overall program and submits on a scheduled basis or as required.Develops a safe, structured afterschool academic and enrichment schedule in connection with afterschool staff to meet individual student needs, according to grant goals and objectives.Completes performance reports and submits them to the program manager.Oversees the provision of a healthy snack for students.Monitors and tracks expenditures of grant or other funds.Enters data for evaluation of program to include: attendance, activities, registration, and other data as determined.Coordinates with school staff the integration into the afterschool program of enrichment activities that align with the standards based curriculum.Communicates with school staff, parents, and principal on a regular basis to update student needs/progress.Conducts recruitment and registration for students participating in the afterschool program.Designs and implements an educational development program for parents of students enrolled in the program.Completes instructor agreements, timesheets, and payroll for the afterschool staff.Assists the Advisory Board and the 21st Century Community Learning Center Department to implement a strategic plan for sustaining quality afterschool programs.Establishes cooperative working relationships with agencies, organizations, businesses, and neighborhood groups to provide additional resources to the afterschool program.Participates in school and staff committees that support goals and objectives of the state grants.Coordinates student transportation with the Anchorage School District Transportation Department, Child in Transition, People Mover, and taxi services, and ensures safe dismissal of students.Prepares written information on the program to parents, school, and the community.Attends school and 21st CCLC staff meetings and staff development as scheduled.Completes mandatory ASD training as outlined in district and department guidelines.Recruits and supervises, schedules, monitors, and evaluates teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff and community volunteers working in the afterschool program.Coordinates with other ASD departments in providing services to Title 1 students, bilingual students, special needs students, etc.Facilitates meeting of afterschool staff, parent resources, and others.Schedules school facility for afterschool and summer programs.Procures supplies and resources to support the program.

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
