SUPERVISES: Natatorium Coord & Lifeguards

JOB GOALS: Under the general supervision of the Sports Park Director, responsible for the operation and management of the Natatorium facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess a current Red Cross Lifeguarding Training Certification.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid training and instructor certification.
  • Knowledge of water purification methods, experienced in aquatic program management and pool maintenance activities.
  • Ability to supervise and direct staff, and develop effective relationships with the public.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Long periods of walking, standing, and sitting. First responder in the event of accidents in and around the pool. Must be capable and willing to perform rescue, first aid and resuscitation duties on pool patrons.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Maintain records of work schedules, time sheets, chemical readings, financial and attendance reports. Prepare deposits from swim lesson participants. Meet regularly with the Sports Park Director to report any accidents or concerns, provide updates on activities, events, staffing, etc.
  2. Enforce the rules and regulations for the pool operation and for the conduct of swimmers as set by Hummer Sports Park Natatorium and TPS. Remain current and follow KSHSAA policy. Attend training to improve knowledge and skill in the area of aquatics management.
  3. Perform Lifeguard duties as necessary. Maintain a constant vigil over patrons in all areas and effect rescue for persons in distress. Render first aid and CPR when necessary
  4. Maintain the pool in a safe and sanitary manner. Clean pool and pool area (to include inspections of shower rooms, trash containers, hallways, outside area and parking lots), conduct chemical analysis and adjust chemicals as required. Conduct daily and weekly pool inspections, check equipment operation and take necessary corrective action to protect the safety and health of patrons, and pool operation. Responsible for closing pool when the safety or health of patrons is endangered. Secure facility when not open or in use to include locking and alarming the building daily.
  5. Organize Natatorium program to include all phases of aquatic activity, to include events outside of regular operational hours. Organize and instruct swimming lessons, lifeguard lessons and other special programs for all age and skill levels.
  6. Attend all lifeguard training scheduled before and during the summer swim season.
  7. Supervise assigned staff by hiring, scheduling and managing performance. Ensure that a lifeguard is on duty at all times the pool is open. Conduct regular training and safety sessions for pool personnel. Prepare annual evaluations and provide performance coaching.
  8. Maintain swim practice and meet schedules. Arrange meet officials. Operate the Natatorium timing system used when hosting meets.
  9. Develop and maintain effective public relations with general public, co-workers, district coaches, athletic directors, student athletes, TSA members and athletes, officials, and patrons that utilize the Natatorium. Receive and resolve complaints or concerns received from patrons.
  10. Other responsibilities as assigned.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month position; Duty calendar as set by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of specialty employees.
