    REPORTS TO:Payroll Supervisor

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Summary: Payroll Specialist will provide organizational and administrative support the payroll area, as well as, the finance areas. Completes all duties related to semi-monthly payroll processing, updates to payroll deductions, monthly journal entries, annual audit and budget support. In addition, this position will assist with various tasks and projects as assigned by the Payroll Supervisor and assist employees with payroll inquiries, in addition to administrators with finance inquiries. Always maintains the highest level of customer service, confidentiality and security.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
    • Five years of payroll and/or accounting experience or combination of both
    • Knowledge of payroll and accounting principles
    • Experience with eFinance Plus or a related payroll system
    • Knowledge of school base finance systems and management
    • Some Human Resources experience preferred

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Job Functions)
    • Maintains current knowledge of payroll regulations.
    • Manages the time and attendance process, updates and addresses related issues.
    • Assist with any Federal, State and Local payroll inquiries from outside agencies.
    • Process and post semi-monthly payroll including enactment of garnishments/child support orders, taxable fringe benefits, employee housing rent, cafeteria deductions, gift shop, etc.
    • Communicates payroll policy and practice changes, and assists Payroll Supervisor and employees with inquiries.
    • Stay abreast of best practices, current laws and regulations to ensure hospital is compliant and meets state and federal guidelines as pertains to payroll and fringe benefits.
    • Responds to outside agency inquiries (Internal Revenue Service, Illinois Department of Revenue, Department of Labor, etc.) including Worker's Compensation Audits.
    • Conducts internal audits as needed for payroll, benefit deductions, status changes, or payroll related items.
    • Monthly reconciliation of multiple balance sheet accounts such as cash, liabilities, and accruals.
    • Prepare monthly journal entries related to payroll, liabilities and accruals and re-classes. § Various payroll and finance related duties as requested by the Payroll Supervisor.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
