    TITLE: Transportation Specialist
    SALARY RANGE: $22.56 - $25.18 hourly

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
    This employee is responsible for developing and maintaining the computerized route infrastructure and support the development of optimal routing solutions and schedules for eligible students within Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS). This position will follow establish guidelines set by CPS District policies and procedures, Federal, State, and Local regulations by working closely with District's stakeholders and vendors on providing safe efficient modes of transportation and customer service for students.

    EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

    Coordinate bus routes and bus route changes with vendors, parents and schools, based on
    analysis of pupil needs, school schedules, regular review of existing routes, safety and
    security requirements, types of services needed, etc.
    Audits all services to ensure they are in full compliance with federal, state and
    local policies, board rules, departmental guidelines, vendor contract, and generally accepted
    safety practices,
    Maintain records and statistics on routes and route changes, services provided and other
    transportation matters.
    Provide data for reports required by the state, the Board, the department, the contractors, and
    others.
    Investigate and resolve, or route to appropriate staff, complaints, problems, issues raised by
    parents, staff and/or vendors.
    May represent department at meetings and conferences by providing instruction and/or training
    to participants.
    Provides backup support to other staff and performs any other related duties as assigned by the
    Transportation Operations Supervisor, and/or other appropriate district administrators.
    Work with Information Technology in operating the computerized pupil transportation system by
    updating records, monitoring computer runs, resolving malfunctions.
    Assist with answering, responding, and/or initiating correspondences regarding various
    concerns/inquiries from students, parents/guardians, district administration, board members
    and inter-departmental offices by providing factual information professionally via verbally (in
    person or phone) and/or written (email/text/letter) regarding the transportation operation and
    corresponding services.
    Effectively use appropriate transportation software and/or available resources within an
    acceptable timeframe to assist stakeholders with identifying a resolution(s) that will support
    the vision/mission of the district.
    Enter a variety of data and information in various computer data files and program (PowerSchool
    and Registration Gateway).
    Use a PC and related software required in the performance of job activities.
    Maintain complex records and statistics on routes and services provided and other transportation
    matters as directed.
    Utilizes transportation software and technology to coordinate and review various data regarding
    routes and services including but not limited to no-show riders, arrival/departure times,
    student counts, GPS/AVL data analysis, etc.
    Provide data for reports required by the state, the Board, the department, the contractors, and
    others.
    Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective
    functioning of the work unit.

    Knowledge of:
    city streets, highways and expressways; locations of public and private schools in Cincinnati.
    Greater Cincinnati geographical region, all school locations, current district routes (yellow bus &
    public transit), or the ability to develop a comprehensive understanding within a reasonable
    amount of time as defined by Director.
    CPS Board and Transportation Department Policies and Procedure.
    basic math.
    English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
    Absence Management System, Business Plus, Google Drive, MS Office Suite, PowerSchool and
    Registration Gateway.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Must have an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Technology, Business, Logistics, Computer Science or a related field, plus two years of paid work experience using Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Access), and /or Goggle Applications, plus three years' experience in transportation operation, route planning, logistics, scheduling, contract management, customer service specialist or dispatcher performing comparable work within a public or private organization including a working knowledge of streets within the City of Cincinnati neighborhoods.

    MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
    Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    This is a sensitive classification, therefore applicants for appointments must pass a security clearance, which includes a check of employment references and criminal records. Indoor environments; exposure to computer screens. Must have a valid Driver License. Employees who choose or is asked to drive a CPS vehicle for work-related community business must receive written annual authorization to do so.

    240 working days

    SUBJECTS AND WEIGHTS OF TEST SECTIONS:
    The selection process is worth 100% of the exam grade and consists of a written exam. The passing score will be determined after the examination by the Civil Service Examiner together with the Secretary. Determination of the passing score will be based on the job analysis, analysis of examination results, consultation with subject matter experts or other professional methods. Veteran's points will be added to passing scores.

    OPEN-TO-THE-PUBLIC EXAMINATION: GENERAL INFORMATION

    1. FILING APPLICATIONS: Must be submitted through http://www.cps-k12.org click on Apply for a job with CPS and Online Application System, Internal Postings; Clerical and Office Personnel. Applications must be received no later than stated deadline.
    2. QUALIFICATIONS: Unless otherwise stated, work experience requirements must be met by paid experience, and all qualifications must be met by the application deadline date.
    3. CITIZENSHIP: Application accepted from both citizens and non-citizens; however, due to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, only citizens and aliens lawfully authorized to work in the U.S. will be hired.
    4. TRANSCRIPTS: ( IF NEEDED, NO LATER THAN THE DEALINE DATE FOR FILING APPLICATIONS).

    5. AGE REQUIREMENT: Must be at least 18 years old by the application deadline date.
    6. SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR QUALIFIED DISABLED: Such persons may arrange with the test analyst at 513-363-0143, no later than the application deadline, for an alternate test date, time or location, or necessary assistance in taking the exam, providing the security or integrity of the exam is not jeopardized nor an undue hardship (e.g., substantial additional cost or time) imposed.
    7. VETERAN'S CREDIT: 20% additional credit is given for military service or service as a Red Cross nurse. To qualify, the following requirements must be met EACH TIME an application is filed for an exam; have an honorable discharge or transfer to the reserves with evidence of satisfactory service, OR have been a Red Cross nurse; have served on active duty; and have shoan official document verifying such service (e.g., DD-214), no later than the exam date; and have passed the civil service exam.
    8. PASSING SCORE: Will be determined after the exam by the test analyst, subject to review and approval of the City Civil Service Division. Determination of the passing score will be based on the job analysis, analysis of exam results, consultation with subject matter experts, and/or other professional methods.
    9. SECURITY CLEARANCE: Applicants for appointment must successfully pass a security investigation which includes a check of employment references and criminal records.
