Director of Technology & Chief Information Officer
Qualifications: NYS Administrative Certification or Civil Service; five years or more of technology experience and record of strong leadership required.
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Pupil Services
Overview of Technology Integration and Advancements:
The Orchard Park CSD's focus on creativity, communication and collaboration has advanced technological integration into our instructional program. Beginning in 4th grade, students have 1:1 devices (Chromebooks), and through our focus on computer science, we have expanded our K-12 students' exposure to STEM and robotics (i.e. Bee-Bots, Blue-Bots, Mindstorms/Lego Robotics, Hummingbird, etc.). Technology advancements throughout our District have enhanced safety, emergency notifications and communications, and our technology infrastructure. We are seeking a Director of Technology and CIO to continue to enhance our instructional program while evolving our tools, resources and infrastructure to support a progressive and cutting edge program.
Director of Technology leadership opportunities include:
  • Contribute to a leadership team committed to maximizing OPCSD's full potential, considering its resources and current program offerings;
  • Partner with District leaders to strengthen the K-12 technology educational program;
  • Utilize and continue to build upon a robust infrastructure that enhances a dynamic learning environment through comprehensive programs;
  • Lead and collaborate with key stakeholders as a shared vision for instructional technology integration is furthered;
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are current, well-communicated, understood, and implemented.
Performance Responsibilities of Leadership, Support for Professional Learning of Technology, Technology Resource Management, Finance & Maintenance, Data and Reporting:
Leadership
  • Facilitates the development of District Technology plan in alignment with and coordination of other District Plans, such as CDEP.
  • Facilitates the District Technology Committee in a collaborative manner to promote communication.
  • Supervises and evaluates District technology aides, technicians, department support staff, and assists with supervision of computer teachers.
  • Supervises and manages the shared-control of the district web page.
Support of Professional Learning of Technology
  • Plans and coordinates staff development for administrators, teachers and support staff regarding computer hardware, software/applications and data analysis.
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff as related to District technology; support the management of annual required policy notifications for all employees.
  • Develops recommendations for technology related professional learning opportunities, for administrators, teachers and staff necessary to support technology integration and computer instruction.
  • Provides advice and assistance regarding the use/application of computer hardware and electronic resources to enhance instruction.
Technology Resource Management, Finance, and Maintenance
  • Leads the maintenance of district-wide technology and programs including: District email, website, Google platform, PowerSchool, Envision (formerly Finance Manager), Frontline Education (formerly My Learning Plan), etc.
  • Maintains the digital catalog of District technological resources (hardware and software).
  • Coordinates the acquisition of computer hardware, software, supplies and coordinates the installation program and computer maintenance program.
  • In collaboration with fellow administrators, including the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, facilitates the evaluation of new technologies to enhance instructional technology integration, computer instruction and computer hardware/software used in instruction.
  • Coordinates the evaluation of software for administrative, instructional and clerical purposes, and brings recommendations to Administrative Cabinet or Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Responsible for technology related grants and preparation of related forms/paperwork, such as e-rate and the Smart Schools Bond Act funds.
Chief Information Officer & Data Analysis
  • Analyzes data and submits state reports as required of Chief Information Officer.
  • Disseminates information related to student assessments/performance, computer education, use of computers; collect and disaggregate data.
  • Assist with maintenance of student and staff data on district systems.
  • Supports all District policies related to student data privacy and retention of student records; supports digital retention of student and staff records.
Other
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as designated by the Superintendent.
