In this position the teacher will work with Seniors and early graduates to complete career related learning experiences. Through these efforts they will track and monitor project completion and work with students to find appropriate placements. The teacher will coordinate a variety of experiences in communities throughout the State in which students can participate. Teachers typically work from home but must travel throughout the year to supervise coordinated activities, required testing and as otherwise may be needed by the school.   • Contact guardian of referred student for discussion of developmental history.
    Instructional
  • Takes ownership for student's academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in student's achievement.
  • Conducts live Synchronous Teaching.
  • Asynchronously supports objectives, including composing/sending emails, planning course objectives, preparing learning plans, and using data to determine student needs.
  • Participate on IEP and pre-referral teams for students with special needs.
  • Prepares students for high stakes standardized tests.
  • Maintains grade book and submits grades and required student work ensuring student academic honesty and integrity.
  • Makes placement and promotion decisions by generating formal and informal reports regarding student progress, alerting administrators to concerns about student performance and progress;
  • Collaborates with local/regional/ national teams and instructional coaches regarding instruction, resources, interventions and data-driven decision making.
  • Receptive and responsive to coaching from administrators and instructional coaches on a regular basis.
  • Under guidance from principal and coach, augments course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools.
  • Use of effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
    Communication and Relationship Building
  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents on an ongoing regular basis
  • Conduct regular conferences with parents/responsible adults and students to assess each child's progress, learning style, and any other academic, social or developmental issues.
  • Conduct regular conferencing sessions for students and/or teaching adults on academic topics of need or interest.
  • Organize service-learning opportunities that support student development.
  • Elementary and Middle School Teachers support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment, in line with academy policies and procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the student in the school.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.
  • Represent the school and district at community, State , and professional meetings and conferences.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of communication with the Special Programs staff in regards to shared students and comply with accommodations and modifications of student plans.
  • Collaborate with Special Programs staff regarding development and planning of lessons to ensure scaffolding, including instructional strategies, for student learning styles and skills.
  • Supports students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrates understanding of how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support.
  • Works collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the stakeholders.
  • Responds to students, parents and colleagues in timely manner.
  • Support ORVA administrators with school information sessions.
    Other Essential functions:
  • Travels to testing sites to proctor State exams.

  • Adhere to Oregon school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures, and contractual obligations.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Oregon School Psychologist license with TSPC
  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Six (6) months of student teaching experience AND
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License, with State required endorsements applicable to subject matter assigned.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of State content standards and ability to align those with the K12 curriculum.
  • Ability to embrace change/ adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
  • Ability to problem solve independently and have a high level of organization.
  • Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and able to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently typically 40+ hours per week, including evenings and weekends as needed to meet programmatic requirements.
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during flexible working hours best designed to meet student and other programmatic needs.
  • Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 10% of the time) for face to face professional development, student testing, and as required by school Access to reliable high speed internet.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word; PowerPoint.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum.
  • Ability to pass required background check.

  • Experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick and mortar environment.
  • Experience with Blackboard Collaborate or other online platforms.
