    The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.

    Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.

    General Statement:
    The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Professional Development (PD) is responsible for supporting the Coordinator of Professional Development and others to design and implement the annual district professional development plan.

    The TOSA for PD reports to the Coordinator of Professional Development.

    Major Responsibilities:

    Supports all aspects of the following areas:
  • Professional Development (75%)
  • Supports Development of District Professional Development Plan – Works collaboratively with Coordinator of Professional Development, central office leaders, principals, and TOSAs to design and implement annual district professional development plan; works with PGDE Committee to identify overall needs of faculty in response to teacher evaluation; promotes cross-district professional development based on areas of interest; collaborates with TOSAs for K-12 Curriculum to support implementation of district curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Provides School Level Professional Development – Supports Coordinator of Professional Development by implementing district-wide Professional Development plan at school level and supporting teachers in improving instructional practices; coaches teachers individually or in small groups; observes and models lessons, develops lesson plans, provides feedback; collaborates with School Data Teams and Instructional Data Team to support data collection and monitoring processes; supports PLCs; collects, organizes, and shares best practice instructional resources with staff.
  • Provides Workshops and Training – Plans and delivers staff development workshops based on professional development needs identified by Coordinator of Professional Development and school administrators; supports the use of technology and applications for all school staff.
  • Program Evaluation (15%)
  • Supports Program Evaluation – Supports Coordinator of Professional Development in managing systems for collecting feedback and monitoring impact of professional development; evaluates effectiveness of professional development offerings; revises professional development based on feedback.
  • Other Duties (10%)
  • Coordinates with Board of Education departments, including but not limited to Teaching and Learning and Intervention and Support Services. Serves as liaison to administrators, content leaders, department heads and others.
  • Serves on committees as requested by the Coordinator of Professional Development
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

    • Knowledge of and experience in professional development and adult learning.
    • Ability to collaborate as part of an integrated team and develops a collegial environment within the school to support staff in teaching and learning.
    • Knowledge of learning theory, adult learning theory, program implementation, best practices in instruction.
    • Use of data-driven decision making to determine effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
    • Ability to use technology to support systems and programs.
    • Excellent conceptual, analytical, problem solving, organization, and leadership skills.
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures related to public schools, specifically related to professional development.
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize information, develop and monitor a plan and produce data-focused reports.
    • Familiarity with budget development/administration & understanding financial resources.
    • Self-directed with attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and a proven track record of working collaboratively with multiple and diverse constituencies.
    • High standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity.

    Qualifications:
    • For Tiered Support: CT CSDE educator certification endorsed for PK-12 in any content area.
    • For Technology: CT CSDE educator certification endorsed for the appropriate grade(s) and content area(s).
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching.
    • Experience in an urban district, preferred.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.
