STAFFING SPECIALIST

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Human Resources, the Staffing Specialist participates in recruitment, interviewing, and participating in the selection process of Special Education support staff. Meets regularly with principals and administrators to determine personnel needs; involving recruiting, selecting and recommending, placing and related actions concerned with staffing Special Education. Incumbent performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attends recruitment trips to attract highly-qualified candidates to build a diverse applicant pool of support staff in the Special Education area who can improve student achievement.
  • Develops recruitment materials for Special Education.
  • Collaborates with universities and colleges to create, develop and implement partnerships to meet shortage areas in Special Education.
  • Networks with other school districts, businesses, and organizations to increase and improve our recruitment efforts in Special Education.
  • Screens, interviews, and hires highly-qualified candidates in Special Education.
  • Monitors candidate pools for Special Education.
  • Works with Special Education Administrators to interview for support level positions.
  • Maintains a system position management for staffing schools, field offices and central office for positions in relation to Special Education.
  • Works with Special Education staff to manage hiring paperwork and allocations.
  • Performs on-boarding for all new Special Education staff members.
  • Works with Substitute Services to help increase the number of Special Education substitutes and also coordinates training for Special Education substitutes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:  Any combination of education/experience that could likely provide the required knowledge in qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business, public or personnel psychology, human resources, education, or any other related field.

and

Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in some aspect of school human resource administration and leadership/supervisory experience in areas such as employer selection procedures, recruitment, interviewing, selecting, labor relations, or education.

Licenses/Certificates: None.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must demonstrate a willingness to travel to schools and work a flexible schedule as needed.

Salary:
Salary Range: $49, 767 - $76, 707

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by the Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.

The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.

Please be advised there is a 90-day waiting period for insurance benefits. Benefits are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
