Career and Technical Education (CTE) Early Childhood Education Teacher, 2019-20

The CTE Early Childhood Education program is designed to teach students the aspects of teaching and working with young children, from birth through elementary age. Students will explore career pathways and develop the characteristics of successful teachers and childcare providers through practicums. Applying theoretical concepts to real-life situations, students are able to take what they have learned in the classroom to their rotation experiences where they learn how to meet the developmental needs and interests of young children. Under the direction of the school principal and the Career and Technical Education director and supervisor, the Early Childhood Education instructor plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students, provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students, supervises students in a variety of school-related settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community.

Salary:
Salary Schedule For Teachers Hired On Or After July 1, 2010 (starting at $47, 858 per year)

Endorsements: Family and Consumer Science PK-12

Qualifications:
- Acquired five (5) years of recent (within last seven (7) years) trade based or equivalent full-time employment directly related to Child Care and Support Services Management.

- Possess in-depth knowledge of effective instructional practices and assessment.

- Exhibit excellent written, verbal, planning, organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with demanding timelines and produce quality products.

- Demonstrate high-level problem-solving skills.

- Demonstrate proficiency with PC?based computer applications, Microsoft Office applications?mail, Web applications, and industry?specific technology.

- Be team and detail oriented.

Required:
- Possess or be eligible to obtain Pennsylvania vocational certification in Child Care and Support Services Management - or - Possess Pennsylvania instructional certification in Family & Consumer Sciences.

- Possess current certification in Pediatric CPR.

Preferred:
- Current certification as a Child Development Associate (CDA) Infant Toddler and/or Child Development Associate (CDA) Pre-School or eligible for certification.

- Strong administrative and clinical background.

- Prior experience teaching.

- Experience in all content areas.

Essential Job Functions:
- Demonstrate correct practical and theory procedures

- Provides rigorous and relevant instruction on approved hands?on curriculum in the content area and general workplace readiness

- Prepare lesson plans that encourage and foster proficient oral and written expression, critical thinking and applications

- Understands and applies effective strategies and best practices to ensure student success

- Administer a variety of student assessment tools

- Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities

- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the district and state laws

- Prepare students to successfully pass the written and practical NOCTI test

- Prepare students to successfully pass student industry certification tests for Child Development Associate (CDA) Infant Toddler and Child Development Associate (CDA) Pre-School.

- Support student participation in the Career and Technical Student Organization (SkillsUSA)

- Participate in district and school?based professional development activities and staff meetings

- Develop and maintain positive and cooperative interactions and communications with parents, colleagues and community

- Maintain an active occupational advisory committee to include: recruitment, testing, safety, equipment recommendations, program improvement and curriculum updates.

- Collaborate with core content teachers on common instructional objectives, integration and alignment of academic standards

- Participate in professional organizations and community events

- Assist the administration in implementing all polices and rules governing student life and conduct.

- Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior.

- Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is primarily sedentary in nature. Employee will be required to operate computer system for data entry, and have the ability to complete necessary paperwork. This position requires minimum physical effort and not subjected to Occupational Health and Safety risks.
