Job Summary
Collaborates with the administrator for High School Supports and other key staff to develop and design the curriculum and instructional program for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academies in middle and high schools. This work incorporates critical components including credit-bearing coursework in the STEM sectors; summer programming that addresses specific workforce skills with associated industry-recognized certificates; career and college readiness training addressing 21st Century skills; and credit recovery through engaging research-based learning models so that students graduate on time and persist on their path to college and career success. The Assistant Director will work with key staff to create and execute professional development plans aligned to STEM programming.
Essential Functions
  • Designs, implements, and monitors the 6-10 curriculum and instructional programs for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academies with the administrator and other key staff.
  • Assists with the development of the academy structure; assists in the creation of an effective and efficient academy structure; ensures that schools with STEM Academies will receive the necessary support to succeed.
  • Assists with preparing detailed written reports for submittal to senior management and the Board of Education explaining the scope of the STEM Academies in grades 6-10; assists the administrator in responding to questions from senior management or the Board of Education.
  • Develops and maintains a cooperative relationship with various central offices, network offices and schools.
  • Assists the administrator on any special projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, communications or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of full-time, paid, professional administrative experience which has involved working in an educational setting and has included managing projects and budgets and developing STEM programming in middle and high schools, at least two of which have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
  • All work experience related to the position must be included on the resume.

  • science, technology, engineering and math initiatives and current issues facing urban public education.

Additional Job Information: This is a 12-month, non-represented position. The salary grade for this role is 4028.
