The Educational Specialist II - Literacy Academic Coach will provide coaching and support to the identified Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) Instructional Educational Associate (EA) and teacher teams at CSI schools across grades K-12 based on the identified needs of the school and school community. The Academic Coach will serve in a non-evaluative role that supports the development of the CSI Instructional EA and teacher teams through site-based coaching to increase knowledge of standards, content, curriculum and adult learning to impact effective implementation of instruction to raise student achievement across all student groups. This position will also support the development and facilitation of literacy-based professional learning opportunities for district and school- based staff. This position is grant funded.

Essential Functions
  • Develops and delivers ongoing professional development around best practices in support of the implementation of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards for English/Language Arts to teachers, school leaders, and district leaders to improve the quality of instruction.
  • Will provide coaching and support to staff to ensure effective implementation of district curriculum and assessments for English/Language Arts through delivery of high quality professional development focused on differentiation strategies and data analysis.
  • Uses student performance and achievement data as tools to identify barriers to success and assists with the designing of strategies for improvement.
  • Provides input into the development of plans to meet student needs, to integrate and connect learning and to address the differing learning styles of students.
  • Works collaboratively with a highly-motivated team from multiple offices to advance teaching and learning in the district.
  • Stays up to date on current research and best practices in the area of English/Language Arts content, pedagogy, and adult learning.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Minimum Salary 77059.00
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education or related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Three years teaching experience in K-12 setting; urban experience preferred.
  • Experience teaching multiple grade levels preferred.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Experience coaching classroom teachers and/or teacher teams to improve the quality of instruction.
  • Strong organization and strategic planning skills; ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledge of current research in literacy best practices.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in adult learning and facilitation.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards for English/Language Arts.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a productive team of individuals.
  • A commitment to educational equity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of multiple computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, PD Tracking and reporting software, databases, and Online Professional Learning software, including web-based delivery of professional development.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules and policies affecting City Schools' educators.
