Special Education Permanent Substitute Teacher (Probationary) - District Wide

TITLE: Special Education Permanent Substitute

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Support instruction and assessment aligned with District learner outcomes and State achievement standards. Supervise assigned students and maintain a positive learning environment. Adapt instruction to meet the learner needs of all students increasing the probability of advancing their achievement. Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members. Provide oversight to Special Education students for a teacher whom has been absent or vacated from their role.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

• Teach the approved Eagle County School District RE50J curriculum based on lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher.

• Implement the regular teacher's assigned responsibilities, plans and schedule.

• Assess student work when appropriate and time permits.

• Promote and maintain student behavior expectations conducive to learning, and maximizes learning time.

• Prepare a summary report of work completed and the day's events for the regular teacher.

• Work with Special Education (SPED) students that experience emotional, learning, and/or physical disabilities.

• Establish and demonstrate positive human relations with students, parents, other staff members, and the community.

• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student information including designated IEP programming and compliance services.

• Comply with District and School policies and procedures including meeting with assigned students at scheduled location and time.

• Utilize the Substitute Absence Management/SAM system to accept/decline/manage his/her work and schedule in the capacity of a guest teacher.

• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Active teacher license or substitute authorization issued by the State of Colorado.
2. Experience teaching or training adults or children in a non-classroom public school environment
3. SPED certification or endorsement preferred.
4. Knowledge of effective classroom management strategies preferred.
5. Effective written and verbal communication skills required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing duties of this job, the substitute is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools; and reach with hands and arms. The substitute is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The substitute is occasionally required to sit; stoop; kneel, crouch or bend and may be required to lift up to approximately 50 pounds.
