BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or general education (GED): one or more years experience as a teacher assistant or similar paid/volunteer work; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to work with various ability levels of students.

Substitutes must be skillful in effectively communicating with students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel.

They must be able to follow written and oral instructions and directions in carrying out tasks and procedures related to the instructional, behavioral, emergency and health-related plans and services.

For consideration, the following documentation must be submitted;
  1. Complete Substitute application ,
  2. Certificate showing completion of the free one-hour online Child Abuse and Neglect (CWS-5691) training ,
  3. Copies of college and or HS transcript(s), and
  4. Professional references completed by current/former supervisors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This is paraprofessional work that requires the teacher assistant to assist the classroom teacher in performing a variety of tasks after training, i.e., emergency plans, health-related plans/services, behavioral plans and carrying out instructional procedures. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the teacher and/or building administrator. The employee must interact with students, parents, and staff in a positive manner. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud during student outbursts.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:


  • Responsible for pupil behavior in class.

  • Record attendance for each class.

  • Remain in assigned classroom until all students have been dismissed for the day, with the exception of a lunch period or other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.

  • Work with individual students and small groups on assignments.

  • Review student work, including objective test materials.

  • Assists in the supervision of students on the playground and during any school sponsored activity occurring during the school day.

  • Assist with fire drills.

  • Assists with weather related items of clothing, as appropriate to the age/developmental level of the students.

  • Follow all policies, rules and procedures for substitutes outlined in the Substitute Handbook and online.

  • At the end of assignment, complete evaluation and check out with authorized personnel.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



SALARY:

  • $13.00 per hour

FULL TIME/PART TIME: Temporary
