DESCRIPTION : Provide Intervention services to general education students who need support in acquiring the skills necessary for reading success, with an emphasis on Tier III students. Analyze and utilize a variety of sources of student performance data and collaborate with school leadership, teachers, and staff to plan for improving literacy outcomes for students. The reading specialist will schedule and meet with grade level teachers to manage the Response to Intervention (RTI) process for Tier II and Tier III identification and intervention. Reports to Elementary Principal.

  2. Working knowledge of the literacy needs of students PreK-6.
  3. Capable of using technology tools for collecting, communicating, and disseminating student data.
  4. Passionate about helping children.
  5. Exhibit interpersonal skills to relate well with students, parents, staff, administration, and the community.
  6. Reflective, flexible, compassionate, enthusiastic practitioner who is organized and has a solid work ethic.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Plan and provide high-quality, targeted literacy interventions to individual and small groups of students using research-based strategies and resources.
  2. Use assessments to diagnose reading strengths and weaknesses, and match these skills with appropriate interventions.
  3. Collaborate with classroom teachers to establish student reading goals and create tools for progress monitoring of students.
  4. Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration.
  5. Participate in data team meetings to assess student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
  6. Serve on the Elementary Response to Intervention (RtI) Steering Committee.
  7. Perform any other duties as assigned by a Supervisor / Administration.
