Job Summary

Leads district communication efforts to enhance the district's reputation and positive engagement with key stakeholders. Plans and executes strategic communication programs and strategies that move stakeholder relationships toward a condition optimal for the achievement of the District's mission. With a deep knowledge of educational issues and District policy and operations, plans and executes internal and external communication initiatives such as key communicators program and the district speaker's bureau, or similar initiatives. Collaborates with senior organizational leaders to construct initiatives for two-way dialog with key constituencies and helps to prepare and coach senior leaders for these strategic communication opportunities.

Essential Functions

1. Manages high-level strategic communication initiatives, collaborating with senior district leaders, to optimally position the district to achieve its goals through continuously improving constituency relationships.
2. Provides editorial oversight, design, and distribution of publications, websites, social media products and communications to inform district personnel and the community about Board of district and school programs and activities.
3. Collaborates with the superintendent and other cabinet level leaders to create digital and print articles and video productions to inform community constituencies of District operations and performance.
4. Provides professional public relations counsel and assistance to schools and district staff.
5. Prepares oral and written materials pertaining to the school district and disseminates to media outlets; obtains, prepares, and edits feature materials for the press.
6. Leads, directs, and manages strategic communications operations; recruits, selects, orients, trains, coaches, counsels, and disciplines staff.
7. Plans, develops, and coordinates appropriate radio and television programs to inform the public of significant school and district programs and activities.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in public relations, mass media, communications, strategic communications, journalism, broadcast journalism, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Management experience preferred.

• Knowledge of district, state, and federal policies, guidelines, laws, and rules related to communications

• Strong word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software skills
