  • QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of proper office methods, techniques and procedures; word processing techniques; proper telephone techniques, English usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and attention to detail; construction office procedures and practices.

    Must have the skill to learn the operations, procedures, policies and requirements of assigned operational units and apply them with good judgment; learn, interpret, and successfully apply District rules, policies and procedures while independently carrying out a variety of technical procedures; operate a variety of standard office machines and equipment.

    Must possess the ability to type 60 NET WPM; take non verbatim notes or minutes and transcribe with speed and accuracy; perform mathematical calculations accurately; maintain efficient record keeping and filing systems, prepare routine reports; coordinate activities and details and maintain a schedule of events; analyze situations and take appropriate action regarding routine procedural matters without immediate supervision; communicate effectively and tactfully in oral and written forms; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the course of work; perform related duties as required.

    This position requires five years experience in the construction field as a secretarial/clerical employee.

    Knowledge of Word, Word Perfect, Excel and Expedition is preferred.

    A RECENT FIVE MINUTE TYPING CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY APPLICATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL. Certificates must be less than two years old and cannot be completed through an online website. Kern High School District employees who currently work in a position requiring the same or higher minimum typing speed do not need to submit a typing certificate.

    A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

    DUTIES OF POSITION: To perform a wide variety of advanced clerical/secretarial duties in support of the day-to-day operations relating to specific programs and procedures within the assigned operational unit, Facilities Planning Department or Business Services. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision from the Director of Facilities Planning or Director of Business Services within a broad framework of policies and procedures. This job classification performs complex and highly responsible secretarial/administrative and operational support functions at a lead or advanced journey level of classification. This position requires the use of initiative, organizational skills, problem solving skills, and independent judgment.

    STARTING SALARY: $3, 017.67 (monthly)

    NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)

    NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours to be 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
