BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills: Ability to read, write, and following written and oral directions; Ability to prepare food from standardized recipes; Ability to operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, pressure cookers, disposals, ovens, slicers, dishwashers, etc.; Ability to use basic mathematics skills quickly and accurately; Ability to follow sanitation and safety regulations; Ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective work relationships with students, staff, and others; Ability to stand for long periods of time; lift approximately 50 pounds; Some knowledge of food preparation and the functional operation of a school kitchen; Some knowledge of basic kitchen routines and cleanliness requirements.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This position is full performance work in various aspects of cafeteria operations. Work may involve food preparation, care and cleaning of kitchen facilities and equipment, serving food, cashiering, or dishwashing duties. Work involves tasks which are performed independently within well-established guidelines and procedures. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion. Work must be completed within a tight time frame.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

include the following:

    • Prepares food items in accordance with standardized recipes in quantities specified on the manager's forecast.
    • Operates various school kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, mixers, disposal units, slicers, ovens, and steam compartment cookers.
    • Sets up serving lines.
    • Acts as cashier during the serving period--takes money, makes change, and maintains accurate accounts.
    • Acts as server or back-up during serving period.
    • Assists in cleaning all areas of the kitchen and cafeteria. This includes wiping tables, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks, etc.
    • Washes dishes, flatware, pots, pans, and utensils.
    • Unpacks supplies and assists with stocking dry storage shelves and/or refrigerator/freezer shelves.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


SALARY:
$11.93 per hour
