Provides classroom support to ESOL teachers and English learners (ELs). Performs routine clerical and instructional assignments within established procedures and standard practices. Tasks performed are outlined in oral and written instructions; employee has limited control over work assignments. Contacts are made within and outside the department; may require handling of sensitive information or dealing tactfully with others. Some judgment is required. Each position will have a specific set of work assignments particular to meeting the needs of students or department being served.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides clerical assistance - typing, filing, maintaining records and ordering supplies and classroom materials.
  • Assists teachers with classroom duties, including correcting work, recording grades, planning work and administering tests.
  • Assists students with academic subjects - may assist students one-on-one, small groups, or whole class depending on assignment and individual qualifications; documents progress.
  • Assists students onto and off the school bus; supervises students at lunch, recess and in the absence of the teachers.
  • Escorts students when necessary; provides support/intervention to students when necessary under the direction and supervision of the teacher.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Qualifications

Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures; of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others. Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of a supervisor; to perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff and parents in a professional manner.

Requirements

Must meet the qualifications of "highly qualified" under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. These qualifications are:
  • possession of passing score of 455 on theParaprofessional Assessment (CCPS does not administer this test), or
  • possession of aminimum of 48 college credits or
  • possession of anAssociate's Degree or higher.

College transcripts orparapro scores must be submitted to be considered for this position.
