Position Description

JOB TITLE : Resource Teacher, Reading - Deep Creek Middle School

REPORTS TO : Principal

DEFINITION : Provides support in the design, development, and modeling of effective implementation of curriculum for secondary English language arts for Grades 6 to 12 that aligns with the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards and builds upon the foundation of the BCPS Teaching and Learning Framework. Ensures that all initiatives support the system-wide goals identified in Blueprint 2.0.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :

Assists in the implementation of the Baltimore County Teaching and Learning framework by supporting quality first instruction through use of culturally responsive and data driven practices in reading and language arts and literacy at the secondary level.

Models lessons demonstrating research-based literacy strategies and best practices aligned to College and Career Ready Standards and delivered in a blended learner centered environment.

Works collaboratively with school based leadership, teacher teams and STAT teachers to co-plan, co-teach and model customized lessons based on formative assessment data.

Assists schools and offices with analyzing and responding to literacy performance data and supports the development, implementation and monitoring of School Progress Plans.

Provides specific, targeted classroom support to schools based on School Progress Plans and direction from the appropriate personnel within the Divisions of Curriculum and Instruction and Schools.

Provides regionalized professional development and support to classroom teachers based upon school performance data.

Provides professional development to BCPS stakeholders on a broad range of topics related to English Language Arts, the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards, and related assessments such as advanced placement exams, the SAT, and PARCC ELA/Literacy Assessments.

Assists in the development of BCPS reading and language arts curriculum at the secondary level while ensuring the infusion of teaching and learning strategies that promote rigor, relevance, responsiveness, and access for all students based on direction from the Chief Academic Officer.

Provides support to schools and offices on the selection of programs and initiatives that support effective reading and language arts and literacy instruction based on BCPS' Literacy Plan and each school's School Progress Plan.

Provides support for teacher leaders in guiding professional learning communities focused on English Language Arts and literacy instruction and practices.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience :

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a field related to the assignment, plus three years of successful teaching experience in the area of English Language Arts; highly qualified status in English Language Arts; experience in curriculum development and revision; experience with planning and implementing professional development. Experience in school progress planning and implementation. Experience with co-teaching and modeling of instruction with teachers. Experience with data analysis and data-driven decision making.

Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Standard Certificate required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of literacy practices. Knowledge of current research-based instructional practices. Knowledge of transformational teaching and learning through the STAT initiative. Knowledge of learner-centered and small group instruction. Knowledge of BCPS One, Learning Management System (LMS), lesson tiles and available digital resources for teachers and students. Demonstration of strong human relations skills. Demonstration of effective organizational and communication skills. Demonstration of computer/educational technology skills. Demonstration of strong teamwork.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :

The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office and school environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.

FLSA: Exempt

Eligible for membership in the Maryland State Retirement System.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81.00 An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
