Job Scope: The WERACE Transitions Coordinator will meet with students and coordinate efforts to create career pathways and pursue a post-secondary education.
Responsibilities include:
  • Establish connections with area training schools and colleges to assist students with access to online applications and career/college exploration websites; coordinate college tours and college fair visits to include presentations on: financial aid information, college admissions requirements, college application process, etc.
  • Identify potential community employment providers, including Department of Labor and other agencies, to promote partnerships for educational, training and employment opportunities for program participants.
  • Provide resources for assistance with the SAT, ASVAB, and Accuplacer. In addition to providing information through student groups, the coordinator will meet with individual students for intensive development of a student success plan to meet the individual student needs based upon their strengths and opportunities.
  • Apply College and Career Readiness Standards in the development of program activities; assist teachers in developing lessons in concurrence with the College and Career Readiness Standards, as they relate to transition standards including classroom speakers and site visits to area schools.
  • Serve as a conduit to local two year colleges and surrounding area training programs. Develop extensive partnerships through which students will ease into a post-secondary educational/training opportunity, resulting in an enhanced avenue to employment success.
  • Meet in small groups and individualized counseling sessions, developing a student success plan with students which will outline the necessary steps for transition to postsecondary education. Consult with other WERACE staff to develop an individual plan of action for each student.
  • Implement all components of the Transitions PEP grant by working collaboratively with other WERACE staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor degree in Education or Human Services required
  • Masters in Counseling preferred
  • Valid Connecticut secondary certification preferred
  • Experience in preparing students for college and career readiness required
  • Experience working with adult learners preferred
  • Familiarity with community support systems
  • Billingual skills preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS
Hours: 20-30 hours per week to include day and evening hours. Schedule to be agreed upon with Director of Adult Education.
Rate: $ 34.12/hour; Non-union, no benefits
Work Year: In accordance with WERACE calendar with summer hours possible
