Senior Staff Accountant

Editorial Projects In Education, Inc. (EPE), the publisher of Education Week, is currently seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant.

The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting functions in addition to assisting with the month-end close, preparing budget and budget reforecast data, as well as with the year-end annual audit.  The Accounting Team’s focus is to deliver business results by providing timely and accurate financial data that inform decisions. The right candidate will have an attention to detail and timeliness. Additionally, a successful Senior Staff Accountant will combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts.

 Responsibilities:

  • Prepare month-end close journal entries
  • Reconcile general ledger account and bank account balances
  • Maintaining integrity of general ledger
  • Perform financial statement variance analyses
  • Assist with preparation of required schedules and supporting documentation for annual audit; assisting with any direct questions from auditors
  • Generate reports and data upon request
  • Maintain and provide suggestions for improvement to company accounting procedures and processes
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures   

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus 2-4 years accounting experience
  • Possess a solid understanding of the general ledger and chart of accounts
  •  Ability to meet deadlines
  • Outstanding problem-solving ability and analytical skills
