  • QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires the knowledge of health department requirements for swimming pools; pool operations and general maintenance methods proper methods of inspection and maintenance of pool filters, pumps, heaters, and associated pool equipment; proper methods of pool chemical applications, and of maintaining proper water conditions; proper backwash procedures; proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies; proper storage and disposal of chemicals; methods to maintain pool areas and facilities in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner; competitive diving, swimming, and water polo.

    Must possess the skill to operate equipment and perform functions required in swimming pool maintenance; understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; maintain records and create reports; maintain inventory and stock quantities at appropriate levels; perform simple arithmetic calculations; plan and prioritize workload and conflicting demands to meet schedules and timelines; maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance; provide lifeguard duties to ensure the safety of swimmers.

    Must have the ability to meet the physical requirements of the job; be trained in pool related maintenance; swim and perform lifeguard duties; work independently with minimal supervision and direction; follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years experience in the maintenance and operation of a commercial type swimming pool and related equipment.
    • In addition to possessing a high school diploma, the candidate should have the ability to read, write, and do math calculations at a level necessary to perform the duties of the position.
    • The candidate must be fluent in English.
    • Possess and maintain AFO and CPO Certificate for commercial pool operations
    • Possess and maintain Valid California Driver's License (Class C) with a clean driving record
    • CPR Training with first-aid certification, Preferred
    • Red Cross Life Guard Certification, Preferred
    • OSHA Confined Space Certification (OSHA 29 CFR) Preferred
    A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK AND A PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

    DUTIES OF POSITION: This position is under the supervision of the Kern High School District's Director of Maintenance and Operations, for the performance of a wide variety of work in and around the aquatic complex, covering the maintenance, operation and cleanliness of the pool, buildings, and the adjacent areas, or "the grounds." This position includes skilled and semi-skilled tasks to ensure that the aquatic complex is available for use and consistently maintained in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition. This position requires a candidate to be a certified commercial pool operator (CPO) and (AFO) as well as a trained lifeguard - as many times the specialist will be the only person at the facility and therefore responsible for safety on the job and possibly other's while at the facility. Functions and responsibilities of this position are expected to be continually performed without significant immediate supervision.

    STARTING SALARY: $4,458.48 (monthly)

    NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)

    NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours TBD)
