JOB TITLE: Secondary Level Instructional Coach
The Secondary Level Instructional Coach will support instruction by coaching and modeling instructional strategies, and by providing staff development to improve students' overall academic performance. Additionally, this leadership role will include opportunities to facilitate relevant committee work, provide standards alignment materials for lesson planning, identifying supplemental intervention materials that best support standards, and working with building leadership to implement current school improvement action plans.
Essential Job Functions:
- Coaching:
- Coach teachers with emphasis on effective implementation of strong instructional practicesCoordinate with specialists (e.g., ESL, SPED) to ensure students are receiving appropriate instructionOffer support to teachers working with advanced readers to comprehend complex texts (informative and narrative)Provide coaching support to all teachers and interventionists
- Assessment:
- Support appropriate classroom assessments by helping teachers to analyze their own student's dataCollaboratively review school progress with district stakeholders in order to review systems, celebrate achievement and problem solve where appropriate
- Staff Development:
- Participate in and provide focused professional development to ensure:
- Instructional strategy expertiseExpertise in literacy and math assessments (of and for learning)Expertise in all core and intervention materials on district inventory
- Observe instructional practices and provide feedback
- New Teacher Mentor:
- Work with new teachers throughout the academic school year, ensuring that best practice instructional strategies are being implemented
- Prior Knowledge:
- 5 years teaching experience at the secondary levelExperience facilitating teacher collaboration and planningBackground in research based instructional strategiesKnowledge of current instructional strategiesAbility to use excel and word for data analysis and record keepingAbility to use technology for presentations and display of data
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Oregon Fingerprint Criminal Check clearance, Appropriate Teacher License.
