Achievement Prep is an award-winning college-preparatory public charter school network committed to historically underserved communities of Southeast Washington, DC. Our flagship middle school, which opened in 2008, serves approximately 500 scholars in 4 th - 8 th grade. Opening in 2013, our elementary school, serves approximately 350 scholars in K - 3 rd grade. It also includes an early childhood partnership with AppleTree Institute, which serves approximately 160 preK3 and preK4 scholars. Our mission is to prepare students to excel as high-achieving scholars and leaders in high school, college and beyond.

What You Will Do

The Director of Academic Intervention & Supports ensures that the Achievement Prep Network is having the most significant impact its the scholars and families. S/he does this by overseeing a myriad of areas directly related to scholar success and achievement. The Director of Interventions & Supports is an entrepreneurial individual who deeply understands scholar enrollment, academic assessments, and scholar supports and interventions. This role, though Network-based, interfaces significantly with campus-based staff as s/he orchestrates critical function areas for the organization.

Reporting to the Managing Director of Curriculum and Instruction, you will:

Intervention Oversight
  • Build and oversee a school-wide approach to individualized and small-group remediation and acceleration with a foundation in Results: an intervention block for all elementary school and middle school Foundation Academy scholarsChampion a culture amongst instructional staff and leadership of data-driven re-teaching of content in an effort to ensure all scholars master the standardsUtilize data collected through a myriad of sources (formal and informal assessments) to help instructional leaders and staff identify and group scholars in need of additional supportsDirect the planning of small-group and individualized instruction for remediation and accelerationMonitor and modify all intervention programming for general education scholars based on data and evaluationSupport instructional staff and leaders in the development of individualized intervention plans specifically for scholars at risk of failing or in need of accelerationCollaborate with the Network Academic Team to ensure school leaders and instructional staff develop the necessary expertise in core curricula to achieve excellent results for scholarsIdentify opportunities for further differentiation of curricula during regular classroom time to ensure all scholars succeedAnalyze potential and existing intervention programs to ensure effectivenessOversee the alignment of all intervention tools used across the network (i.e. online tools, teacher-created tools, and Results)


Scholar Services
  • Monitor the Student Support Team (SST) process for fidelity of implementation and effectivenessTrack implementation of academic and behavioral interventions to ensure efforts are being documentedReview various data sources, including academic, behavioral and attendance data that may impede academic achievementTrain school leaders on the SST process and expectations for execution at the campus levelReview dashboards and campus SST reports to ensure timely identification of appropriate scholar for the SST processWork with Scholar Support and school-based leadership, in accordance with the Child Find mandate, to facilitate eligibility of scholars for special education servicesProvide network oversight to campus to ensure that interventions are taking place and being monitored across the network


Assessment Administration & Oversight
  • Ensure that scholar progress is accurately and consistently tracked across the NetworkServe as primary point of contact for management of assessment administration/logistics and assessment plans and datesCreate project plans for logistics of assessment administration and proactively communicate roles and responsibilities to staffCoordinate all test logistics, including organization of assessment materials and scheduling, and oversee test administrationRemain current on local, state, and federal testing and accountability policiesEnsure communication and compliance of school-based staff with all assessment guidelines, procedures, and security regulationsProvide professional development regarding assessment practices and compliance issues.Conduct frequent audits of the assessment landscape and assist leadership in refining processesServe as the external point of contact and trainer on district required policies and procedures


Coaching & Development
  • Provide training for staff to effectively maximize Results by implementing developmentally appropriate interventions for individuals and groups of scholarsMeet with grade level teams and school-based leaders to problem solve for scholarsSupport instructional staff in the implementation of interventions via model lessons, observation and feedback, lesson plan feedback and regular coaching sessionsPlan and implement professional development for instructional leaders to align adopted curricula (Eureka Math & KIPP Wheatley English Language Arts) with effective differentiation and interventionsFacilitate professional development sessions regarding assessment and scholar data, as neededAssist and coach campus leaders to support data-driven instruction


"Wind In The Sails" Support for Schools
  • Communicate proactively and frequently with familiesBe on campus from at least 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM dailyProvide leadership to all staff and scholars in establishing a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school cultureParticipate regularly in projects and initiatives that integrate Network Office staff into schoolsSupport "all-hands-on-deck" times of for schools: beginning of school year, standardized testing, all school assemblies, etc.Maintain a culture centered on our ethos and core values of Determination, Respect, Enthusiasm, Accountability, and MasteryExhibit an unwavering commitment to high academic achievement and character development in our scholarsReceive continuous feedback from peers and school leaders on your practice and be expected to give the sameManage time, tasks, deadlines and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment and hold others accountable for the same

You Must Have
  • Bachelor's degree5+ years experience as a high-performing and data-driven educator in an urban setting2+ years experience with large-scale assessment systems and compliant testing environments2+ years experience coaching teachers and developing/delivering professional developmentExceptional analytical skills, including an ability to innovate ways of communicating complex informationExtensive experience analyzing student, classroom, and assessment data and guiding instruction based on findingsExperience with external relations and/or strategic partnershipsAbility to work some evenings and weekends


It Would Be Nice for You To Have
  • Master's degreeExperience with PowerSchool and/or other student information systems
