GENERAL
DUTIES:

The Attendance Specialist reports directly to the building Principal, Attendance Manager and Assistant Superintendent. The Attendance Specialist is to support the Springfield Public Schools in addressing attendance at all levels and in the prevention and intervention for chronic truants. The Specialist will communicate with the parent/guardian by telephone, mail or in person to address the attendance of students. The Specialist will also respond to telephone calls or other referrals or may go on location to intervene to support the student's return to school.SPECIFIC
DUTIES:

1. Conducts daily follow-up on student attendance.• Data Warehouse• Tardiness• Attendance reports to staff• Follow up with attendance report - fix error (process to do this)• Ensures that suspensions and attendance logs match2. Compiles aggregate attendance data to identify chronic truants and assist administrators with attendance process and prioritize cases.• Data warehouse reports• Identifies and prioritizes cases• Working with school on attendance buy-backs• Working with the school on attendance contracts• Initiates petitions to juvenile intake and prepares cases for formal hearings3. Serves as a liaison between the Springfield School Department, the courts, Community Agencies, the Springfield Police Department and other agencies involved with SPS students. • Identifies students who are involved with outside agencies in order to serve as the liaison• Identifies student' needs and assist in making the connections with the services needed• In schools where City Connects is present, the Attendance Specialist will work directly with the City Connects Coordinator to achieve the above bullet.4. Participates in Home Visits as assigned.• Regarding "attendance matter"• As the second individual through the Home Visit Project Initiative5. Prepares reports as needed or assigned.6. Serves as the attendance liaison between school and home.• Works directly with parents to identify and assist with student needs7. Be available as a Level 3 partner with STAT (Student Teacher Assistance Team) teams and support the engagement of families as Level 3 partners.• Works with teachers and other school personnel on identifying and assisting with identified student needs.8. Participates in developing and implementing the School Improvement Plan that links the plan to district goals regarding attendance as assigned.9. Maintains accurate logs.• Phone calls, letters home, home visits• Daily, monthly yearly10. Conducts sweeps as assigned by Attendance Manager or Assistant Superintendent.11. Performs other duties as assigned by Attendance Manager or Assistant Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate Degree from an accredited college or university.

Three (3) years of successful employment experience working with Middle/High School age students.

Ability to facilitate communication between teachers, students and parents.

Ability to collect and enter student attendance data and related information, including contributions to the Students Success Plans of attendance related issues.

Computer skills: Data collection, E-mail, Report preparation, knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including attendance at evening meetings.

Ability to speak and write in Spanish is desirable.

95 percent attendance as referenced from previous employment position.

Own reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed).
