The Counselor Technician is the dedicated key coordinator driving the activities of the student and family support team, through the full non-instructional lifecycle for an assigned student caseload. The position helps foster a high touch approach to educational support and exhibits superior customer service skills along with a commitment and desire to provide the best experience possible for students and families from initial onboarding through ongoing academic engagement.

AS A COUNSELOR TECHNICIAN , YOU WILL ENJOY...
  • Manages the non-instructional lifecycle of a caseload of approximately 200-250 students; Creates/updates students Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and perform ILP conferences with students and families;
  • Oversees the entire onboarding process for assigned students; Serves as a single point of contact for all non-instructional issues after placement, ensuring students have all necessary equipment, and know how and when to access their courses;
  • Builds functional student schedules, managing for appropriate student course under the direction and guidance of the Academic Administrator;
  • Contacts late starting or missing students by phone and works to quickly on-board them;
  • Plans and delivers online orientation sessions; Monitors student participation; Coordinates with K12 for the delivery of monthly online parent training events;
  • Moderates homeroom/advisory activities and creates required collateral, e.g. PowerPoint decks, handouts, etc.;
  • Serves as a liaison between the student and other academic teachers and administration;
  • Completes "winback" calls for students wishing to withdraw;
  • Examines academic progress and activity of students on their caseload on a regular basis; Initiates recurring contact by phone with students and their families when students begin showing signs of failure/struggle as determined by grades, missed log-ins, course activity, and number of missing assignments; Arranges and moderates advisor/parent/student/teacher conferences as needed to address performance concerns; Assists students in creating a personal action plan;
  • Contacts students on their caseload by phone for a monthly conference call; Answers all phone calls, emails, and kmails from students, staff and parents; Sends out daily and weekly blasts of important school-level information when applicable;
  • Assists with proctoring standardized testing;
  • Attends staff meetings; Attends and participates in school and K12 sponsored Professional Development Events.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning. Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in an educational field AND
  • One (1) year of related experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Flexible schedule; Ability to travel as needed, up to 10% of the time within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations
  • Ability to pass required background checks
  • Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with the proposed age group
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • An ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g., database and web-based tools)
  • An ability to support and guide adults as well as students
  • Experience coordinating academically-oriented clubs and extracurricular activities
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in an educational setting
