Job Description

Transportation Coordinator

The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of all bus transportation including but not limited to ensuring that transportation operations are in full compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations; bus transportation meets the needs of each program served and supervising bus monitors.

Duties

- Recommend bus routes using software and local knowledge of transportation area, review routes with program staff for final approval;
- Communicate approved routes to transportation vendor;
- Ensure daily operation of all buses, arrange for substitute monitors as needed; (Note: program staffs are responsible for ensuring all children have someone on at home to meet them on a daily basis. Children who cannot be dropped at home will be returned to program site.)
- Supervise bus monitors in conjunction with program staff;
- Develop and administer the safety program in compliance with all federal and state regulation and unique needs of each program;
- Review daily monitor reports for completeness, investigate all incidents and work collaboratively with program staff to determine appropriate corrective actions;
- Respond to all parent questions/concerns in a timely manner in accordance with protocols that are developed for each program;
- Conduct regular inspections of the buses, ride buses monthly to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as well as individual program protocols regarding transportation;
- Recommend policies and procedures, prepare data reports as required;
- Provide training to new bus monitor, and provide coaching if necessary to other staff;
- All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

- Minimum 3 years working with child care or school-based transportation system;
- Ability to use transportation software programs;
- Detailed knowledge of Lawrence streets and traffic patterns;
- Experience supervising staff, knowledge of management practices;
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
- Exceptional problem solving and interpersonal skills; and
- Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of all federal and state rules regulations that apply to child care and school bus transportation.

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Bachelor degree preferred
