The Office of Family and Community Engagement in Education (FACE 2 ) creates opportunities for parents, schools, families, and communities to work together to create meaningful partnerships that ultimately lead to student achievement.

The Deputy Chief of Family and Community Engagement in Education will support community outreach planning and execution across the district and the City of Chicago in order to achieve the CPS goals for students. The Deputy Chief of FACE 2 is also responsible for overseeing programs and services that increase parent and community engagement with a particular focus around Parent University and strengthen the partnership among parents, community and schools to improve student academic achievement and school success.

The Deputy Chief of FACE 2 will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

• Drive system change to improve family and community participation and advocacy for world-class educational opportunities for all CPS students

• Provide leadership and direction to engagement planning and activities critical to the Chief Officer of FACE 2 's vision and strategy; organize, manage, prioritize, and monitor the execution of the strategy

• Maintain and manage key relationships with a diverse range of community, advocacy, civic, and elected leaders, in order to garner support for the FACE 2 strategy and the execution of those plans

• Lead, facilitate, and coordinate cross-functional, cross-departmental project teams in order to implement engagement strategies; communicate clearly with district leadership

• Build effective, productive relationships with internal leaders to ensure seamless implementation of the family and community engagement strategy

• Reflect upon and analyze the effectiveness of district engagement efforts and provide strategic support to direct reports

• Analyze, assess, and respond to difficult, atypical, and sensitive issues confronting the Chicago Public Schools as directed by the Chief Officer of FACE 2

• Supervises and manages direct oversight in alignment with the Chief Officer, all systems and processes of the Volunteer Department, the Office of Faith Based Initiatives, Parent University, and the FACE Management staff

• Works in conjunction with the Executive Director of the Office of Local School Council Relations to ensure management and oversight of the department.

• Manages all facets of Parent University and supervises all Title I activities.

• Act as a representative of CPS and the Chief Officer of FACE 2 as requested and/or required.

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Deputy Chief of Family and Community Engagement in Education must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration/Policy, Business Administration, Communications, Social Justice or a related field of study.

Type of Experience and Number of Years : Eight or more years of professional experience, three years of executive leadership

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

• Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

• Motivated self-starter

• Willing and able to perform assigned duties in a manner that is sensitive to different personalities, respectful of the role and authority of school leaders, sensitive to community dynamics and political implications

• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders

• Excellent organizational skills

• Exceptional negotiation and conflict resolution skills

• Deep understanding of CPS policies and structure

• Ability to analyze, create, and present custom data reports

• Proven customer service skills

• Proven resourcefulness

• Team player who possesses group-thinking skills

Other Requirements:

• Evening and weekend work hours are probable

• Must adhere to Performance Guidelines established by Senior Leadership

• Other duties assigned by Senior Leadership

Residency Requirement:

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
