Position Description

JOB TITLE : Resource Teacher, Secondary MSAP, Health Sciences (10-month), Golden Ring Middle

REPORTS TO : Principal

DEFINITION : Responsible for planning, implementing, and refining the magnet program and curriculum development. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
Support school teams and coordinate with BCPS curriculum offices in development and implementation of a unique, integrated, Health Sciences magnet curriculum.

Work with teachers to provide direct instruction to students in magnet theme and program offerings (e.g., co-teaching, coaching, lesson modeling, inquiry-based instruction).

Work with the teachers to develop assessment tools that are tailored to the magnet curricula and revising curricular materials to meet student needs and interests.

Coordinate all school-level magnet program activities for staff and students, including summer enrichment programs, speakers series, career exploration experiences, and externships for teachers.

Evaluate school-based professional development needs and coordinate and facilitate training.

Serve as the liaison to the partnering Health Sciences middle/high school.

Assist with documentation and the maintenance of forms and reports.

Attend professional conferences and research up-to-date literature on magnet themes and innovative instructional strategies to support development and implementation of schools' magnet curricula, in areas such as inquiry-based and project-based learning, and thematic content areas.

Perform other duties as assisgned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training and Experience :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree; plus three years of successful teaching experience. Teaching in a magnet school program preferred. Experience working in a health science field or teaching health science courses preferred. Experience in the development of curriculum and professional development of adults preferred. Master's degree preferred.

Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Professional Certificate is required. Maryland Advanced Professional certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of magnet education. Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications. Knowledge of and skill in data analysis.
Demonstration of strong and effective human relations and communication skills. Demonstration of strong leadership skills. Demonstration of effective organization skills. Demonstration of strong computer/technology skills.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
