   License and Certification Qualifications: Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required. School Passenger and School (P&S) Bus endorsements required within three months of hire. Master Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) School Bus Technician and T8 Truck Preventive Maintenance and Inspections required within six months of hire.

Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Automotive/diesel service technician training at an accredited technical school preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Seven years of experience as an automotive/diesel service technician required.

Skills Qualifications: Ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately; knowledge of motor vehicle parts, materials, maintenance tools, hazards, and safety procedures; ability to train and supervise other technicians and helpers; knowledge of the handling and disposal of hazardous wastes; ability to use computers, vehicle maintenance software, diagnostic software, and computerized test equipment to diagnose problems and make adjustments to engines, electrical systems, and other vehicle components and subsystems; and ability to use welding and flame-cutting equipment to perform vehicle repair work.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for performing overnight Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.) mandated inspections for a large school bus fleet and perform and supervise preventive maintenance services and repairs for the Fleet Maintenance Department.

1. Support the Lead Automotive/Diesel Technician - Safety Inspection to ensure all scheduled inspections are performed on a daily basis.

2. Perform monthly vehicle inspections.

3. Lead inspection team in absence of the Lead Automotive/Diesel Technician - Safety Inspection.
a. Ensure all inspections are performed in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.
b. Prepare documentation to demonstrate inspection performance on each bus.
c. Communicate with Fleet Management and staff in conjunction with or in the absence of the Lead Automotive/Diesel Technician - Safety Inspection.
d. Update software work order records.

4. Ensure inspection crew operates in a safe and secure environment.
a. Wear appropriate safety gear, to include at least eye and hearing protection and support the Lead Automotive/Diesel Technician - Safety Inspection in enforcing same protocol among all team members.
b. Make recommendations about other safety equipment like flashlights, head lamps, reflective vests and other safety items and assist with the requisition and issue the devices in the absence of the Lead Automotive/Diesel Technician - Safety Inspection.
c. Conduct on-going risk assessments to ensure crew safety.

5. Supervise and perform preventive and corrective maintenance services and safety inspections as directed and according to established standards.
a. Provide and maintain necessary tools to perform services and repairs on GCPS fleet and equipment.
b. Research technical manuals, service bulletins and instructions, equipment diagrams, and parts catalogs in hard copy and on the internet.

6. Supervise and train automotive/diesel technicians and trades helpers.

7. Be available to work assigned shift as directed.
a. Respond to work requirements any time on any day of the week when assigned to on-call duty.
b. Be on call for necessary work 24-hours per day, 7 days per week.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
