SUMMARY:
This building level position is designed to assist the school principal and Director of Athletics with the management of the school athletics program and class activities such as dances, assemblies and graduation events. The athletic director assists in supervision of coaches and others involved in school athletics programs and acts as a liaison between administration and ASB and for booster group representatives. The expectation for this position is to direct implementation and interpretation of the policies of the Board of Education, the school district, and WIAA as outlined in the respective handbooks, by-laws and sport regulations. This position shall be responsible for the overall leadership, supervision and coordination of all sports programs to ensure students have worthwhile learning experiences.

CONTEXT AND MISSION:
Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, Boulevard Park and White Center Heights in Washington State. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - Provides leadership and coordination of all school Athletic Department functions as assigned by the principal or Director of Athletics. - Conducts interviews for coaching vacancies. - Ensures all paid and volunteer coaches are properly cleared to work with students to include WSP/FBI background checks, required certifications, and district badge. - Coordinates and develops practice schedules and facility coordination (building permits) at assigned high school and other practice sites in conjunction with the District Athletics Office. - Schedules opponents and makes travel arrangements. - Orders transportation and works with other Building AD's to share transportation where possible.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR - at School Site - Confirms seasonal schedules with opponents and cross-checks district schedules database for accuracy. - Reviews orders for officials prepared by the District Athletics Office and cross-checks officiating assignments through Arbiter prior to each event to ensure officials have been assigned. - Accepts, reviews and monitors all student eligibility paperwork to include grade checks for academic compliance. - Ensures that emergency forms for approved student-athletes have been supplied to each coach prior to the first day of practice for each student. - Prepares a building-level ASB budget and coordinates a request, review, and approval process for head coaches in conjunction with the assistant principal in charge of ASB. - Observes and evaluates all head coaches, assistant coaches and volunteer coaches per department guidelines. - Reviews observation information with the assistant principal with oversight for athletics and the Director of Athletics. - Coordinates and assists with supervision/coverage for all sporting events. - Attends regular meetings with the Director of Athletics to coordinate the district wide athletics program. - Coordinates and leads seasonal parent meetings. - Coordinates and leads regular coaches' meetings. - Coordinates team and overnight travel per district policy. - Coordinates in-building event staff and administrative supervision for building athletic events. - Regularly inspects athletics facilities for potential safety hazards and reports issues to Director of Athletics. - Serves as the liaison for booster group representatives and ensures compliance with District and State guidelines. Attends parent booster meetings. - Serves as the liaison between administration and ASB. Oversees ASB budget and collaborates with school bookkeeper. - Oversees graduation events and class activities; supervises dances. Plans and coordinates all assemblies with students. - Approves fundraising requests and fundraisers to ensure compliance with District and State guidelines. - Serves as a member of the Advisory committee to support student voice in school climate and culture. - May teach leadership class. - Completes and submits required WIAA paperwork to include coordination of student eligibility appeals. - Builds partnerships with community and youth sports groups. Other Functions - Performs other related duties as assigned by supervising principal or Director of Athletics for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student learning objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A valid Washington state teacher certificate with a secondary grade level endorsement Five years of experience coaching and/or supervising high school athletics programs
