Makerspace Design, Development, & Operation

  • Design Lead the design of the makerspace to ensure it is operational by the first day of SY2019-2020, including, but not limited to, equipment purchasing, installation of tools & equipment, usage policies & procedures, safety guidelines, and efficient organization systems

  • Co-Teaching Work closely with teachers to re-imagine their current lessons to align with maker education pedagogy & technology. Facilitate these learning experiences in a co-teaching role with the teacher of record.

  • Purchasing/Procurement Create systems for effectively managing the purchasing of supplies, technology, and equipment, along with tracking inventory, expenses, and purchase orders

  • Operations Maintain, repair, and ensure the working order of all digital fabrication equipment and other technology in the makerspace

  • Curriculum Utilize curriculum that I have previously developed and expand it to meet the needs of the students & teachers. Work closely with teachers during this process to align to their content areas.

  • School-Wide Integration Develop strong relationships with "early adopter" teachers to advocate for maker-based learning, to demonstrate their work in the makerspace, and work to make the core learning outcomes of maker education part of the school's culture



Afterschool & Summer Camp/School Program Management

  • Coordinate logistics, instructors, and students for afterschool and Summer Camp/School enrichment, intervention & athletic activities

  • Monitor programs & instructors for high-quality program deliveryprovide support when needed

  • Research, communicate, and propose afterschool vendors for additional programs

  • As needed, fill in for afterschool and Summer Camp/School enrichment, intervention & athletic instructors/coaches in the case of last-minute cancellations or if a substitute is not available

  • Manage the makerspace after school for drop-in sessions for students to continue to engage with the space after the school day ends



Classroom & School-Wide Technology Integration

  • Assess the school's current classroom technology integration, both hardware and software, to discover pain points for teachers, gaps in coverage, and places for improvement/growth

  • Provide professional development workshops with teachers on different technology integration strategies and best practices for utilizing different types of hardware & software

  • Stay up-to-date with latest trends in educational technology and suggest software & hardware to administration & teachers to run pilot programs

  • Serve as a point of contact for teachers & staff needing expertise on utilizing G Suite for Education

  • Computer Science K-12 Integration Specialist responsibilities align closely with technology integration



Community Outreach & Partnership Development

  • Develop relationships with local non-profits, community organizations, educational enrichment programs, and city-wide makerspace & STEM organizations

  • Build professional, working relationships with schools, non-profits, museums, and art-based programs to improve the makerspace at the school

  • Utilize contacts to engage with a variety of key stakeholders in makerspace & STEM education in Chicago to secure resources for school

  • Communicate with corporations that support STEM & maker education for grant opportunities, in-kind donations, or professional support

  • Utilize the makerspace as a way to engage local residents and community members in after-school or weekend "making" events"

  • C ommunity Schools Initiative Coordinator responsibilities align closely with this section



Marketing Management

  • Manage all aspects of the school's web presence (website, social media, content, SEO)

  • Complete a full re-design the school's current website to meet the needs of the staff, parents, & students and to integrate industry standard web technologies

  • Be the point person for all graphic design-related work including any digital, print, apparel, or other marketing materials

  • Support in-person marketing and outreach at school-based events and off-site events such as conferences & school fairs

  • Designs outward facing marketing materials such as newsletters, blog posts, and other communications with the broader school communinty



Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Educational Technology or similar discipline

  • 5 years of related experience in education, technology, and/or design

  • Proof of prior success in roles in STEM education, makerspaces, or educational technology

  • Knowledge of core elements of project-based learning, user experience design, and educational technology integration

  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit and track record of starting educational programs in design, technology, or maker education

    • Past experience launching and maintaining a makerspace preferred

    • Past experience in a fast-paced start-up environment, focused on educational technology preferred

  • Evident of strong leadership skills

    • Past experience in a supervisory role preferred

  • Predisposition to be proactive and a self-starter; comfort with ambiguity and ability to troubleshoot and to devise targeted, ad hoc solutions

  • Willingness to be a life-long learner; faculty will be expected to participate in summer, before, during and after school professional development activities throughout the year

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with school leadership, universities, partners, and other key stakeholders to facilitate successful\implementation and execution of projects and initiatives

    • Past experience in partnership development with community organizations, non-profits, academic institutions, and other key stakeholders preferred
