TITLE: Science Coordinator (District-wide) (12 month – Non-Teaching Position)
DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning
EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately
POSITION SUMMARY To supervise, lead with integrity and assist with the design, implementation and evaluation of educational Math, Science, and STEM programs, district initiatives and state/federal instructional mandates; work with individuals on curriculum development and education reform; provide professional training to staff about Math and STEM education in correlation with Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: District Office Direct Supervisor: Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Explicit knowledge of the Math & Science curriculumA track record of excellent collaboration, facilitation, and team-buildingSupervise, plan and conduct in-service training for teachers and coaches on best classroom instructional practices in Math, Science and STEM education through teacher/grade level teacher meetings, coach/coordinator meetings and district-wide professional developmentBuild STEM education partnerships with businesses/universitiesCreate/oversee a STEM education team within each buildingAssist in overseeing and helping to grow the STEM pipeline programOversee the after-school, Saturday and Summer STEM programsMaintain/monitor weekly collaboration schedule with teachers and building administratorsRegularly observe instruction in all buildings in an effort to ensure adequate implementation of Science and STEM education is taking place district-wideAggregate and analyze school/district dataOversee district-mandated Units of Study for Science & STEM educationOversee/implement the yearly STEM Career FairMonitor the Science and STEM grants in partnership with the Grants/Project ManagerHave planned data conversations with teachers, principals and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning using district and state assessmentsParticipate/lead professional development activitiesMeet regularly with building principals to discuss building needs/concerns of Science and STEM education in alignment to school and district initiativesPositive attitude and professional at all timesOther duties as assigned related to the comprehensive development of the district's instructional program

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

4 years of experience as an instructional coach or coordinator with distinguished rating
  • Explicit knowledge of Common Core State Standards, NGSS, STEM educationKnowledge and experience with current "best practices" in instructional coachingProficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)Experience/Proficient in Google SuiteAttention to detail and ability to multi-taskAbility to work well with other (team player at all times)Ability to respond with flexibility to demands and requirements of the teachers, principals and District Office AdministratorsExcellent organizational skillsAbility to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines requiredOutstanding written and verbal communication skills requiredExperience and ability to interpret/present student assessment data (NWEA and PARCC)Excellent written and oral communication skills using Standard EnglishDaily access to a reliable car required.Attend planning/meetings as necessaryAct as a liaison between the schools and District OfficeLead the participation in vertical articulation to reinforce developmental scope and sequence (K-8)Maintain school/district data and statistical informationEngage collaboratively in the district-wide effort to build a shared vision and supportive culture, identify common goals, and monitor and evaluate progress toward these goalsActively participate as part of the district team, giving feedback on practices examining student work, analyzing data from multiple sources, making decisions to improve students' learningSupervise the district curriculum committee to develop and maintain units of studySuccessful completion of State of Illinois PERA modules (preferred)Experience with supervising teams

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Valid Teaching LicenseType 75 (preferred)Master's degree/endorsement in Math or Science (required)Minimum of 4 years of experience with NWEA and data analysis/action planSuccessful experience in teaching students (grades K-8)Experience with supervising staff
