JOB TITLE : Resource Teacher, Science - Elementary

REPORTS TO : Coordinator, Science - Elementary

DEFINITION : Assists in the design, development, and modeling of effective implementation of the elementary Science curriculum for Grades PreK to 5 that aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards. Ensures that all initiatives support the system-wide goals identified in the Blueprint 2.0

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
Assists in the development and/or revision of the elementary science curriculum to address the Next Generation Science Standards.

Supports quality first instruction through use of culturally responsive and data driven practices in science at the elementary level

Works collaboratively with school-based leadership, teacher teams, and STAT teachers to co-plan, co-teach, and model customized lessons based on formative assessment data.

Introduces new curriculum and provides professional learning experiences for administrators, STEM Coordinators, STAT teachers, and classroom teachers.

Assists teachers in understanding elementary science content.

Provides support and professional learning to individual teachers and/or grade level teams.

Assists teachers and administrators in adapting curriculum to meet the needs of the individual learner.

Remains current with national and MSDE guidelines for elementary science instruction.

Integrates technology and other content areas into elementary science curriculum.

Reviews and analyzes the assessment requirements of the Maryland Integrated Science Assessment.

Assists in the evaluation of new curriculum materials, resources, and equipment.

Maintains personal professional growth in elementary science instructional practices.

Assists with events, conferences, and seminars.

Works cooperatively and collaboratively with all members of the PreK-12 Science Team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus five years of successful teaching experience in an elementary classroom. Master's degree preferred.

Experience with implementation of curriculum based on the Next Generation Science Standards preferred.

Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Standard Certificate required. Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of the principles and practices of pedagogy. Technology competency: knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications. Knowledge of and skill in data analysis. Knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards. Skill in communication, leadership, and human relations.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally sedentary, but will also be active during professional learning and classroom experiences. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional physical activities.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81.00 An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
