Arts Director Job Description
The Arts Director oversees the artistic learning experience of 650 students attending one of only two public performing and visual arts high schools in CT, specifically in Visual Arts, Creative Writing, Dance, Theatre, Choir, Band, and String Orchestra.
In addition, there is a personnel leadership component to the role including evaluation of teachers,hiring, terminating and supporting arts faculty, including both full-time and part-time staff numbering approximately 35. Management of a team of staff in addition to teachers, the Arts Office clerk, the Director of Co-Op After School, and several part-time production assistants. The Arts Director works closely with the school's leadership team and sets PEVAL student learning growth goals that are comprised of administrators and lead teachers to identify areas for improvement school-wide; develop consensus and implement forward thinking solutions aligned with mission of the school.

The Arts Director regularly plans and facilitates site-based arts and academic professional development. Much of the role involves student and teacher social emotional interaction. This includes mediating student-student, teacher-student, and teacher-teacher issues in arts classes; determine trauma-sensitive consequences for student disciplinary issues etc. The Arts Director oversees the ACES magnet budget including maintaining accurate records, reporting to administrative team, and facilitating strategic conversations with staff around spending and long term planning. Also, the school maintains a bank account in which the Arts Director maintains. The Arts Director supervises all fundraising initiatives, including student, parent and community-based efforts. Oversees and maintains school-wide calendar of events, including over 50 individual performances annually- many of which are in the evenings and on weekends. The Arts Director ensures compliance with major grants including funds from the Connecticut State Department of Education and the Nellie Mae Foundation. The Arts Director also identifies, fosters and deepens partnerships with neighboring institutions including Yale University, the Yale Art galleries, the Shubert Theater, Long Wharf Theater, Yale Repertory Theater, ArtSpace, the Beinecke Library, etc.
