Position: K-5 Paraprofessional

Position Summary

University Prep's mission is to educate every child for a four-year college degree and a life of opportunity. Paraprofessionals are key to achieving our mission and are entrusted with advancing it through one-on-one and small group targeted supports for a variety of scholars with additional needs including scholars with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Paraprofessionals provide both academic and behavioral supports in the general education classrooms. Beyond core daily Responsibilities, Paraprofessionals are future educators in our organization who are not only directly supporting our children, but developing their instructional skillset over time in preparation for becoming lead teachers

Suggested Qualifications
  • Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with mission and vision of school.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Experience or familiarity analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Openness to feedback, desire to continue development as a professional, and willingness to take responsibility for scholar outcomes and achievement.
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish) (not required)

Responsibilities
  • Provide engaging, motivating, and relevant one-on-one academic and behavior support to scholars with a variety of needs in the regular classroom, using plans and modifications supported/provided by grade level and Scholar Advancement teams.
  • Collaborate regularly with grade level and Scholar Advancement (Special Education) teams regarding individual students' progress and needs; provide data and anecdotal information on scholar progress during instruction.
  • Teach, support and enhance school-wide systems and expectations at all times with all children.
  • Participate in a four-week summer institute/training.
  • Actively engage in professional development, learning opportunities and school-wide efforts (including but not limited to) issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Continuously use feedback to make productive changes in instructional practices and overall performance.
  • Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines.
  • Participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout year.

Fellows receive a competitive compensation package including a salary and comprehensive health benefits. In addition, University Prep supports Fellows in receiving their teaching licensure.
