Compensation for the School Bus Driver In- Trainingposition starts at $15/hour,with plenty of opportunity for growth into the School Bus Driver career starting at $19.15/hour. Flexible training schedule;10-15 hours/ week of traning.

SUMMARY Under general supervision, trains to operate school transit bus on assigned routes to and from school and special events

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Attends and completes behind-the-wheel and classroom instruction.
• Learns how to monitor students and enforce District policies and rules of conduct.
• Learns how to report behavior issues and other concerns to supervisor.
• Learns how to perform daily vehicle inspections, and assures the bus is operating correctly.
• Learns how to complete post-trip interior inspection of school bus for remaining students before leaving bus.
• Learns how to inspect vehicle, and identifies vehicle problems requiring additional maintenance and repair.
• Cleans the bus interior, sweeps the floors, and cleans windows and seats.
• Completes all required written reports on a daily basis
• Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment
• Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
• Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
• At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Employment is contingent upon passingpre-employment criminal background,driving record checks, DOT drug testing. Training program will begin upon passing of MN Commerical Learner's Permit assessment (Study Materials will be Provided).
Knowledge of:
• Safety rules and regulations, and safe driving techniques in all road conditions.
• Local geographical area, road systems, and City and state traffic regulations.
• First aid and CPR.
• Capabilities, operational characteristics, adjustment and preventive maintenance of the type of vehicles to which assigned.
• Basic record keeping practices.

Skill in:
• Operating vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, District policy and procedures, and state and local regulations.
• Following and maintaining safety standards.
• Adjusting and performing preventive maintenance on the vehicles to which assigned.
• Recognizing potentially hazardous situations on the road and taking appropriate action.
• Reading and understanding a variety of plans and maps.
• Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
• Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
• Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities;.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain valid a Minnesota State Commercial Driver's License with school bus/passenger endorsement is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a transit vehicle in a traffic environment, with moderate physical requirements. Required to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
